The Amazing Story of the Nizam who used 900 crore Diamonds as Paper Weight

The name of Mir Osman Ali Khan, the then seventh Nizam of Kurtherabad, wore torn, is in the news these days. The reason for this is his 300 million rupees left assets, after a long legal battle over which the British High Court has ruled in favor of the heirs of India and the Nizam. However, this property is only a small part of that immense treasury of the Nizam. According to a media report, Mir Osman Ali Khan had so much wealth and many heavy diamonds, which he used as a paperweight. According to the report, he had assets worth $ 230 billion and was one of the richest people in the world at that time. Let us know about some interesting aspects of his life…

The report said that Mir Osman Ali Khan, who ruled Hyderabad from 1911 to 1948, was, in fact, an emperor-like grandeur. He had so much wealth that he could not be protected from his time. Once, the nine-million-pound note that he had kept in his basement was destroyed by rats. His collection of jewels included a 185-carat Jacob Diamond that was the size of an ostrich egg. It costs Rs 900 crore. It is the seventh-largest diamond in the world. Currently, it is owned by the Government of India.

It is said that the sixth Nizam of Hyderabad, Mehboob Ali Khan Pasha bought this diamond from a merchant named Jacob. The diamond was named Jacob after the same merchant. By the way, this diamond is also known as Imperial or Great White or Victoria. It was found in South Africa's Kimberly mine and weighed 457.5 carats before cutting. The report said that Mir Osman Ali Khan, five feet three inches tall, was afraid of his Sultanate. He was addicted to smoking. His palace garden had low tarpaulin lorries filled with precious jewels and gold ingots. These lorries in the same place in the garden were spoiled by rotting.

According to the report, he could have absconded with the lorries with all the money, but he let all the lorries lie under the tarpaulin there, which caused them to rot. However, three thousand African bodyguards were stationed under his protection. It is said that he alone had 100 million pounds of gold ornaments. Other metal jewelery cost 400 million pounds. Currently, this amount was worth billions of pounds. However, as time passed, he became stingy. The report says that this change over time surprises many times. He started wearing his own woven socks and stitched kurtas while his shelves were filled with prized clothes. Not only this, he did not change these clothes for months. In old age, he used to sleep in a simple veranda in which goat was also tied.

Reports said that when the merger of princely states was continuing in India after independence, Nizam Mir Usman Ali Khan paid a sum of £ 10,07,940 and nine shillings in 1948 to the then High Commissioner of Pakistan in Britain, Habib Ibrahim Rahimtula, to his Finance Minister. With the intention of keeping it safe. Since then this amount is deposited in his account of NatWest Bank plc. This amount has now increased to about Rs 300 crore. It is said that after the merger of the princely state of Hyderabad with India, the Nizam claimed this amount in 1950. But High Commissioner Rahimtullah refused to return the money and said that it has now become the property of Pakistan.
