Jabalpur wonders

Jabalpur, situated at the banks of river Narmada, is one of the important tourist destinations of Madhya Pradesh. This beautiful area is rich with mesmerizing views. Bedaghat on the river Narmada and the Dhoonandhar waterfalls and the Chausau Yogini temple make us wonder. Though these were seen many years ago, these are still vivid scenes.

It is less than 30 km from Jabalpur. This is a famous ghat where the Narma Dhanadi river flows and cleanses. This is where the waterfalls of Dhuwandhar fall. The Narmada, a beautiful and scenic Bedghat, flows 98 feet below the sea level. It is such a downward spiral that the water molecules can soar like a white cloud. How often does it seem to look that way? During the sunset and full moon days, the scenic view of the Narmada and the Fountains make for a delightful experience. But we were lucky enough to see these in the daytime. This daytime view is also a spectacular sight. The view down this waterfall is spectacular. The water flows over a wide variety of marble slabs, which come in many shapes and colors. The sight of a collection of marble stones within reach of the river, both in and out of the river is breathtaking. In some cases, the arrangement of marble stones is similar to that of wooden planks.

A boat trip is also arranged on the river Narmada. There will be two guys on the boat, and a guide to explain the sights. The journey is from Panchavati to Swargadwar, amidst the towering marble baskets. On the way, we can see and touch the sculptures in a variety of shapes, looks, and colors. Although at times scary, the trip was quite enjoyable. The stories that guide also are interesting. There are children waiting for the coins to sink down from the rocks. It is said that some monks, including Osho, meditated on some of the rock-cut caves. It is one of the favorite locations of filmmakers and has shot many dances and songs.

Bedaghat is a village rich with craftsmen, mainly because of its abundant availability of marble. Hence it is known as the village of craftsmen. You can buy a wide variety of marshmallows here and there. Peace-loving locals do not use alcohol or fish.

Chausau Yogini Mandir (Chausau means the Temple of 64. 64 Yoginis) is another rare sight in Bhedaghat. This temple is built on a hillock with a circular rock and it is in a state of collapse. The temple was built during the time of the Kalachuri kings of the 10th century. The shrine is dedicated to Lord Shiva. On the right are the rare idols of the Sun God and the left Ganapati. Surrounding the central sanctum there are 64 beautiful yoginis and sculptures. The sculptures in Khajuraho have some interesting features. The cave-in front of the temple gate is closed.

Each of Jabalpur's sights and experiences, however, are still vivid images.
