Diwali : the festivals of lights, love and sorrow

Diwali, a festival of lights is a legacy from the past when Raja Rama after defeating Ravana came to Ayodhya and was crowned to become the ruler of the kingdom of Kosala (present-day Uttar Pradesh). All this was of great joy to the people living there, so as to celebrate the victory of Lord Rama also known as the triumph of good over evil, the festival of Diwali is celebrated. Also diyas are lit on this day, diyas are basically an earthen lamp which adorns every single corner of the house, even the oil or ghee in the diya represents the dirt (greed, jealousy, hatred, lust, etc.) that the humans tend to nurture while the cotton wick is symbolic of the aatman (self).

On the other hand, Diwali is celebrated primarily to herald the coming of goddess Laxmi. Prayers and chants are offered to her, asking for her blessings in the form of wealth. As such, rangolis (designs) are created at the entrance of the house not only to welcome the guests that visit but also to the goddess herself.

Now as the title speaks of love, lights which basically = to happiness then why something contrary to it? Here's why, firstly the environment including everybody: children, men, women, senior citizens, etc. As due to the large scale of bursting firecrackers ( yes...yes..yes we Indians get immense pleasure by cresting disruptive noises and activities, especially on Diwali even tough no Lord Rama approved of it...but we still do it). During this festival, these firecrackers when burnt release harmful gases in the atmosphere increasing the chances of global warming and pollution over double rates. Moreover, just to add the cherry on top is the loud music coming from the new sony, bose, Reshma (don't even know if it's a brand or not) speakers, all of this causing health issues and sometimes death if it gets worse.

So, why not we pledge to not burn any firecrackers on the poor tails of street dogs or to annoy the strict uncle next door by burning crackers in front of their own house? Why not we must stick to some and exclude some? Why be a sadist when you can be a sadist?

In the end it's all up to us either we make the environment or make Diwali.

thankyou viewers have a nice day and a nicer Diwali!
