Scams and fake news are having a great time during the covid-19 panic.
What's app has introduced a new feature to help prevent the spread of misguidance on the platform by limiting how many times "frequently forwarded messages" can be sent on, as well as introducing new signs to denote these types of messages.
These types of messages that whats app will now label as "frequently forwarded" as it has been forwarded at least five times. The what's app will highlight this to users through a new double arrow - this will also signal to whats app users that the original message didn't originate from one of their close contacts.
Also, there will be a limit on how these messages can be forwarded. Those that are recognized by the WhatsApp as frequently delivered will only be allowed to be sent to only one chat at a time.
It's a tough time for many people, so it is good that online platforms like what's app are taking these steps to prevent the spread of fake news.
That idea involves displaying a magnifying glass icon next to these frequently forwarded messages, giving users the option to send that message to a web search where they can find news results or other sources of information.
"double-checking these messages before forwarding may help reduce the spread of rumors. This feature is currently in testing, and we'll keep you updated on the next step," what's app said.
In January 2019, what's app had announced limits on forwarded messages to constrain virality.it also introduced a new privacy setting and an invite system to help users decide who can add them to groups.

Ios users have also received the ability to add stickers to photos or videos, private reply feature, and 3d touch options. The single reply feature, which has been on the android platform since November last year, allows you to reply to a group participant privately in a group chat without other participants knowing about the message. The feature is used in a group chat but directs you to the private chat upon using it.
The Facebook-owned company took this step to curb the flow of misinformation in covid-19 times. What's app said on Tuesday that to curb the spread of misinformation, it is announcing a new limit so frequently.
