Seven most interesting unknown factsPlanet Earth has some of the mysterious places across the globe that will never surprise to amaze you, Let me list down some of the most mysterious places on Earth and yet fascinating,

1. ETERNAL FLAME FALLS, ORCHARD PARK, NEW YORK

The waterfalls of Shale Creek in the southeast corner of the Chestnut Ridge Park, you will see a flame continuously burning throughout the year. The first site it will look like an optical illusion. The fire is fuelled by the methane gas escaping through the cracks.

2. BLOOD FALLS, ANTARCTICA

The coldest and driest place on planet Earth, Antarctica, has a blood-red waterfall staining the white Taylor Glacier. According to the researchers, it is because of the vast amount of iron oxide and red algae.

3.The Hassdalen light

The Hessdalen light, where mysterious orbs of lights dance unexplained in the sky. The Hessdalen Light is an unexplained light seen in the air in Hessdalen valley in Norway. The views were first seen in the 1930s and are seen 10-20times every year. Scientists are still dumbfounded as to what causes them.

4.The Devil's Kettle waterfall:

The Devil's Kettle waterfall where people still do not know where half of its water goes to. In Minnesota, Judge C. R. Magney State Park holds one of the most intriguing waterfalls ever – called the devil's kettle. The name is for the right reasons. Let me explain.

When water flows from point A to point B, all water should flow to it. Sometimes it may fork and go to point C too. But when you add up the water in the destination, you always get the total amount of water that came from the source point A.

The devil's kettle is a waterfall on the Brule River, and it falls into a pothole and then continues to Lake Superior. It turns out Lake Superior only gets half the water that falls down the waterfall – scientists measured. They have no clue where the other half goes. They did experiments where they put dye in the water and table tennis balls so see if the water came out in one of the adjoining lakes – because it has to come out – that's how lakes form, through groundwater. No explanation whatsoever – seems like the water flows into the pits of hell – disappearing forever.

5. Raigad Mainpat of India is a famous hill station of the Surguja district of Chhattisgarh. It can also be called Shimla of Chhattisgarh. One of the spots that attract tourists here is 'inverted water'. Here the flow of water is not towards the bottom but the height. Here the neutral train on the road goes towards the hill for 110 meters.

6.The lost city of Atlantis:

The very first mention of Atlantis came from Plato in his dialogue Timaeus. He talks of an island which was situated "in front of the Pillars of Hercules." There has been discussed ever since whether it exists or if Plato just made up the island as a way to prove a point in his dialogue (philosophers tend to do that). To summarize, the story of Atlantis, it existed in the 10th millennium, was a world power, it attacked Athens, failed miserably, and then sank in a single day.

Of the places suggested to be the location of Atlantis, the two most probable are the island of Santorini, which was a prosperous Minoan island and sank by massive volcano eruption or Sicily, the people who lived there were called "the sea people" and used to raid Egyptian settlements and how Plato described Atlantis, as pretty similar to Sicily (Athens also once attacked Sicily and failed miserably, maybe Plato made a reversal?). Note both of these places are nowhere near the strait of Gibraltar (AKA. The Pillars of Hercules).

7.SIBERIAN SINKHOLES

A 115-foot hole was discovered in Siberia's Yamal peninsula — a name that means "end of the world" in the language of the area's indigenous inhabitants — after an unexplained explosion in July. Two other mysterious sinkholes popped up in Russia's north shortly after. Scientists believe gas explosion beneath the surface caused the sinkholes, but they haven't been able to confirm that theory.

In November, a team of scientists, a medic, and a professional climber plunged into the sinkhole to learn more about it, but the cause of the deep holes is still unknown.
