India has an amazing history. It is believed that the ancient Indians referred to their country as Jambudvipa or The continent of Jambu Tree. The ancient Persians termed our country as the "The Land  Beyond Sindhu", however they pronounced it as "Hindu", from here came to the word "Hindustan". Some historians believe that the name "Bharat"  means the "The Land of Bharata's", an ancient Indian tribe and some believe that Bharat was an ancient King. The word "India" originates from the Greeks, the Greeks called the country "Inde", and then the English took this word and called the country "India".

India has been a country with a lot of variations, a lot of languages are spoken in the country, India is the largest democracy with the biggest constitution in the world. The biggest film industry belongs to India. The seventh-largest country in the world is blessed with one of the seven wonders of the world "The Taj Mahal". 1. ISRO: From Bicycle To Billions!

The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), which is now counted as one of the top space research agencies in the world, carried out the launching of their first rocket with the help of a bicycle. Sounds strange, right? But it is true.

This rocket was launched from Thumba Equatorial Rocket Launching Station (TERLS), Kerala on 21 November 1963. Dr.  A.P.J. Abdul Kalam and  Vikram Sarabhai are the notable names involved in this breathtaking operation.

 

2. Leh: The Place Redefining Nature!

A place known as the Magnetic Hill in Leh defies the phenomenon of gravity. Ever heard about this miracle before? But it is true. The magnetic hill does not obey the rule of gravity.

The magnetic hill pulls a static vehicle upwards when the engine is turned off whereas you have to use the engine's power to descend.

 

3. Atal Tunnel: Truly "Atal"!

The Atal tunnel is the world's longest highway tunnel. The 9.2-kilometer tunnel is made under the Rohtang Pass by the Border Road Organization (BRO) that connects Manali to Lahaul-Spiti valley. It reduces the distance of about 46 kilometers between Leh and Manali. Before the construction of this tunnel, the valley remained closed for vehicles, with its construction it will now provide all-weather connectivity.

India was once known as "Sone ki Chidiya" because Indian in the seventeenth century was a very rich nation and because of its immense wealth India was nicknamed as the "Golden Bird". But the colonial period gave a major blow to India, and this British Raj in India resulted in the Drain of wealth. The Drain of wealth is estimated as several billion. 6. Shampoo: An Indian Invention!

You must have seen, some old age people collecting gooseberries, fruit pulps, and many other varieties of herbs. Ever wondered why? This is because the practice of using shampoo was invented in India, and among household, this practice was commonly followed. The technique of making shampoo was taken to the world from India when the colonial rule started, however after this  further modifications to this shampoo were done by the Germans and the English.

 

7. Majuli Island: The Largest Riverine Island!

Majuli in Assam is the largest riverine island (land surrounded by river water) in the world. Majuli island is on the Brahmaputra River in Assam. So what makes Majuli so special?

Majuli became the first island district of India in the year 2016, which makes a special place of Majuli in the history and geography of India.

 

8. Chenab Bridge: Talking To The Clouds!

Chenab bridge which is now under construction is going to become the world's highest railway bridge. It is located at the Reasi District of Jammu and Kashmir. This bridge is about 110 kilometers long and at a height of about 360 meters above the river. Once the construction of this bridge is completed, another jewel to our country would be added.

 

9. The Floating Post Office!

You must have seen your father going to a post office for making a letter posted. Have you?

Well, the people of Srinagar, have to post a letter by visiting a different kind of Post office. Srinagar is blessed with the first and only floating office of India over the beautiful Dal Lake. This post office started in the year 2011, is now the center of attraction to many tourists. The people here, if want a trip around the lake can simply post a letter.

 

10. Mawsnyram: The Place That Needs An Umbrella!

Mawsnyram is the most rainest place in the world. It is located in the East Khasi Hills of Meghalaya. It is even said that in this place you can even taste clouds!

The people here use a different kind of umbrella made up of bamboo, that is used to cover the full body, it is reported that Mawsnyram receives about an average annual rainfall of about 467 inches making it the wettest spot on Earth.
