Kolhapur CITY

As we know, India is the 7th largest country in the world by area and 2nd largest country by population. In this country, Kolhapur city situated in one of its states named Maharashtra. It also contains almost thirty plus districts in, and Kolhapur is one of them. 

This city was under the rajarshi Shahu Maharaj before independence. Who was also called as the raytecha raja ( king of poor people )? He developed the almost fifty lakes in the city for the water storage purpose, which required for drinking and agriculture. To get the water for the rural areas, he built the dam called Radhanagri Dam. Which is the only dam in India who had completed the hundred years and also have the automatic door opening system? Shahu Maharaj also builds the Palace named as theater place. Like this, many more things he had contributed to the development of the city.

● Location:-

Kolhapur is a part of the southern Maharashtra i.e., on the token boundaries. It mainly takes birth from the Brahmaputra Tekdi situated on either side of the Panchganga river ( means confluence of five rivers ).

● Famous tourist spots:-

The city has many places to visit for the tourists in which the most famous site is 'Mahalaxmi Temple.' Which is very popular all over the country as it was made many centuries ago. Because of this temple, Kolhapur is also called ' DAKSHIN KASHI. '

Another in the line is jotiba temple, panhala fort, rankala lake, Radhanagri Dam, etc. and many more to hangout.

● Sports:- 

Kolhapur is famous for the wrestling as the first medal to India in Olympic was won by the khashaba Jadhav in wrestling who was the wrestler from the Kolhapur. Because of which it is called as the kusti Gandhara ( means home for the wrestlers ). Another is, It is famous for its football as it is going on for many decades. The latest example of it is aniket Jadhav played in the u-17 Football world cup team for India. Also, swimming and shooting had won the medals in Olympic i.e., by Virdhawal khade and Rahi sarnobat, respectively. Like this way this city had the history of the sports

It is partly famous for Kolhapur chappal all over India also for Kolhapur saaj, and in cooking, it is famous for Kolhapur Tambda - Pandra races for nonvegetarians, Kolhapur misal, etc. The people from Kolhapur are fond of spicy food.

There is a number of hotels and resorts are available in the city for the accommodation purpose. 

● Transportation:- 

One can travel through Airways as the airport is connected to different local as well as international airports.

● Closest cities and states:-

1. One can visit Goa after visiting Kolhapur as Goa is just 300km away from it.

2. Another state to visit from this city is Karnatak i.e., Bangalore city, which is also called the silicon valley of India. Which is just 500km away.

3. You may also visit Pune the Educational Hub of Maharashtra which is only 250 to 300km away

4. Not but least you can travel to Mumbai via Kolhapur which is the capital of Maharashtra
