How To Stop Procrastinating?

Have an exam, work emergency, or deadline? But you can't stop watching that netflix series and start finishing up your work even if you want to. This is procrastination. Procrastination is one of the biggest problems in this modern world. Well good news is that you can change this habit anytime by just adding small tweaks in your lifestyle. Here is the list of things you need to do :

1. CHANGE IN ENVIRONMENT

 

It is very important to be in a work related environment. You need to be in a clean, calm, inspiring environment. It's important to have no distraction. Keep your phone, laptop or other devices locked away in a place where you can't just pick them up and start using. some people use soothing music while studying/working. It helps to expand their attention span. If it's hard to create an work inspiring environment around you then just go to a library or coffee shop to get the work done. 

2. SET SIMPLE GOALS

As a starter, your goals need to be simple and easy to reach. A lot of people fail because they want to start the hard way and achieve it all in just one day. Well that's never going to be a success. You can't just get rid of a habit that's been with you for a long time. You need to be patience. Set easy tasks and accomplish them. It will give you confidence. Divide your tasks according to your schedule and GET IT DONE. Make the schedule flexible, so you can make a few changes if needed.

3. 10 seconds rule

This method has worked for many people. The 10 seconds rule is a rule where you have keep working for next 10 seconds. when this 10 seconds end, you will start again. It keeps going on untill you finish the work. This formula divides the work into several 10 seconds. As we know, 10 seconds is a very small amount of time. We can do anything, even the most boring job for 10 seconds without any thoughts of procrastinaton. If you can do it for 10 seconds then you can do it for as long as you need to.

4. FORGIVE YOURSELF FOR THE PAST

Don't keep dwelling on your past mistakes. It's very common to not forgive oneself and keep procrastinating. If you want to make changes and be a productive person then you must forgive yourself for your past procrastination. It's important to be guilt free to move on and make better choices. If you want to break the procrastination cycle then take a deep breath and let the past go. Only think about the present and how you are making better choices now.

5. Set a reward system

After every task is finished without procrastination, even small ones, give yourself a treat. It can be anything. A small walk in the park, that series you wanted to watch, a relaxing bubble bath or that pizza your are craving. It's important to take a break and accknowledge your achivements. It will inspire you to go on and not quit even if things get hard.
