Fashion Illustration is the art of communicating fashion ideas in a visual form that originates with illustration, drawing, and painting and also known as Fashion sketching. It is mainly used by fashion designers to brainstorm their ideas on to paper or computer, using digital software like Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, which helps them to communicate easily with their team. Fashion design and fashion illustration are a different thing. They serve a different purpose. A fashion illustrator illustrates clothes. He draws and paints pretty pictures of pretty dresses. For example, a company needs attractive illustrations to promote its range. On the other hand, a fashion designer draws and paints pictures of clothes and also has the ability to turn the drawings into real, wearable garments from fabric and thread. That means a fashion designer designs the actual clothes, how they are made, type of material, finishes, and should have the ability to create these designs too. Fashion designing is a lot more three dimensional and technical than fashion illustration.
