There's no conflict that cats are one of the most popular pet choices. They're also fiercely independent, curious, and loyal - and can make a perfect companion for you and your family as a live-in friend. Sure, these furry pets are mischievous at the time, and they might get enjoy smacking your keyboard or make your desk messy, but all of these things are their charm - and that's why we adore them so much.

Well, for you, and especially for younger ones, having a cat can lower the risk of getting allergies. Not only to pet hair, but according to the American National Institute of Health, cat exposures at a young age can also prevent "other types of common allergies like grass, dust mites, and ragweed."

Don't get deceived by there all the fluff and fur; cats are natural predators. Despite being domesticated, they still have that hunter instinct, thereby will keep your house away from mice.

Cats do sleep a lot(more on that below the list), but even when they're snoring, they still stay super alert. They're able to hear and smell active while sleeping, so they can pounce on a pest at a moment's notice.

Since cats don't eat meat as nearly as much as dogs do, it results in a much smaller carbon footprints. While definitely smaller, both animals can produce carbon footprints equivalent to cars according to some sustainable authority.

There are a few things as heartbreaking as losing a pet, which is why knowing that the average domestic cat  has a lifespan of about 15 years is very comforting.
