Why Apple now manufacturing iPhone 14 in India

The company has been working with suppliers to ramp up production in India and shorten the lag in manufacturing new iPhones from the typical six to nine months for previous launches, the report said on Tuesday, citing people familiar with the matter.

According to the report, Apple's Taiwan-based supplier Foxconn has studied the process of shipping items from China and assembling the iPhone 14 at its plant outside of India city of Chennai.

Production of the first iPhone 14s from India is likely to be completed in late-October or November, the report added.

The iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max are the first iPhones to have a new type of cutout display called "Dynamic Island", replacing the notch. iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max models (as well as the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus) sold in the United States drop support for physical SIM cards, making them the first iPhone models since the CDMA variant of the iPhone 4 to not come with a discrete SIM card reader.

The iPhone 14 and 14 Plus have an identical design to the iPhone 13, although for the US models, the physical SIM tray is removed.

The iPhone 14 and 14 Plus will be available in five colors: Blue, Purple, Midnight, Starlight, and Product Red.[12] Purple is a new color replacing Pink used on the iPhone 13 and 13 Mini.

Chipset

The iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus are equipped with the Apple A15 Bionic system on a chip, the same variant used on the 2021 iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max.[4] The iPhone 14 and 14 Plus feature a 6-core CPU, 5-core GPU, and 16-core Neural Engine.

Display

The iPhone 14 features a 6.1-inch (15 cm) display with Super Retina XDR OLED technology at a resolution of 2532×1170 pixels and a pixel density of about 460 PPI with a refresh rate of 60Hz. The iPhone 14 Plus features a 6.7-inch (17 cm) display with the same technology at a resolution of 2780×1284 pixels and a pixel density of about 458 PPI. The front facing camera also has autofocus for the first time.

The iPhone 14 provides 16 hours of video playback, while the Plus variant provides 20 hours of video playback.

Software

Like the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus, the 14 Pro and Pro Max will ship with iOS 16. All iPhone 14 Pro users had to update to iOS 16.0.1 immediately after launch, after reports of camera bugs.

Dynamic Island

The Dynamic Island is a reimagining of the sensor "notch" found in previous iPhone models starting with iPhone X, which in the iPhone 14 Pro is moved to a cutout slightly detached from the top of the screen. It is designed to serve useful information, such as hardware and system-level notifications, media playback data, and other app-specific functionality that Apple calls Live Activities. These icons may appear as an expansion on either side of the sensors, with the background matching the black color of the screen cutout and appearing to seamlessly expand it.[12] The Dynamic Island can also expand further into the wider iPhone 14 display. For example, notifications for incoming calls appear in a banner that stretches out horizontally from the sensors, while Face ID indicators vertically from the sensor cutout rather than appearing in the center of the display as on previous models.

The Dynamic Island can also be tapped to view additional details; for example, ongoing activities like Maps directions or sports scores can also be expanded by tapping and holding the area.
