Two teams of eleven players each compete in association football, often known as football or soccer[a]. The players' primary method of propulsion for the ball is with their feet as they move it around a pitch, which is a rectangular field. By advancing the ball beyond the goal line and into a goal that is defended by the other team and has a rectangle frame, the aim of the game is to score more goals than them. The game is usually played in two halves of 45 minutes each, for a total of 90 minutes during the contest. It's the most popular sport in the world, with over 200 countries and territories having an estimated 250 million players.
