Construction of surplus water channel to link Medavakkam Periya Eri to Anai Eri begins. The channel will run across Thiruvalluvar street

In January, Medavakkam residents and civil engineer Dayanand Krishnan submit- ted a petition and flood audit to chief secretary Shiv Das Meena, urging them to build surplus channels from Med- avakkam Periya Eri to pre vent floods. "We also want the department to connect the south Thaangal (additio- nal water storage space) of Medavakkam Periya Eri with the main lake, because the Thaangal also breached in a couple of spots," said Da- yanand. "Also, encroach- ments near Medavakkam Pe riya Eri Bund must be remo ved," said Arjun Shankar, an activist from Medavakkam.
