iPhone 14: Specs and features

-- The iPhone 14 series could be one of the most exciting iPhone lineups we have seen in recent times. But that will only happen if the leaks appearing turn out to be true. Apple is expected to make a slight change in its existing lineup of iPhones. Rumours suggest that Apple may scrap the iPhone mini series and replace it with a regular size iPhone. Thus the upcoming iPhone series may include - iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Max, iPhone Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max. There's no certainty if Apple will use these names for the official devices when they ship.

-- Tipster Jon Prosser showcased the iPhone 14 a week ahead of the iPhone 13 launch. Since then, plenty of renders and mockups have appeared, with most pointing towards a design similar to that shown by Prosser. But now, analyst Ross Young claims that Apple will use a "hole plus pill design" on the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro. The design was first brought to attention by a Twitter user who mentioned that the front camera would be housed in the hole while the Face-ID system would be situated in the pill.

-- The previously leaked design by Prosser reveals the iPhone 14 with a single centred punch-hole camera. Thus hinting towards the removal of the notch we have been seeing since 2017. The rear panel appears to be completely flat with no camera module and camera sensors sitting flush with the surface. The render also shows a titanium frame with rounded volume, which seems to be inspired by the iPhone 4.

--Tipster Ross Young says that iPhone 14 will have a 6.06-inch OLED display with a resolution of 1170 x 2532 pixels and a 60Hz refresh rate. The iPhone 14 Pro with a similar-sized display will get a 120Hz refresh rate. On the other hand, the top-end iPhone 14 Pro Max is said to feature a.bigger 6.68-inch panel OLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate. The iPhone 14 Max, expected to replace the Mini model, could be equipped with the same display but a 60Hz refresh rate.

-- Like every year, Apple will bring a new chipset to the iPhone 14 series. The chipset is likely to be called A16 Bionic. Leaks suggest that the chipset could be based on a 4nm or 3nm manufacturing process. However, there's a possibility that Apple will continue with the 5nm chipset as TSMC is facing production issues with 4nm/3nm chipsets.

-- Apple increased the storage to 1TB on the iPhone 13 series. Now it is being said that the storage on the iPhone 14 Pro will be bumped up to 2TB. The company may also increase the RAM to 8GB on Pro models and up to 6GB on regular models.

-- A bunch of rumours are hinting towards the inclusion of a higher resolution primary camera on the iPhone 14 Pro. According to this, Apple may switch to a 48-megapixel camera replacing the 12-megapixel camera being used for years. The camera is said to be capable of 8K video recording. Taiwanese research firm, TrendForce corroborates the report. Thus, there could be something to claim here.

iPhone 14 launch date

Apple has been pretty consistent with the launch of the iPhones. The iPhone event takes place in the month of September. The current-gen iPhone 13 also arrived in September following the suit. Thus, the iPhone 14 may appear during the same time next year.
