WhatsApp develops a new function to make backup safer

One of the issues that most worries users are the security and privacy conditions in messaging applications. WhatsApp is the app that people use to communicate par excellence, and although it does protect chats and calls by end-to-end encryption, the same does not happen with backups.

The backup copies are stored in Google Drive and are encrypted by the technology giant, so you can easily access the content of the chats. Everything suggests that the situation will change: WaBetaInfo has discovered that WhatsApp is working on a new feature to protect the backups saved in Google Drive, which adds to the next developments in its change in appearance.

This feature is still in development, so it is not yet available. The company wants to guarantee the absolute security of its users, which disappears when we make a backup. WhatsApp wants to solve this problem with a personal password, which guarantees privacy.WhatsApp protects the chats through end-to-end encryption, which ensures that only the sender and the receiver can access the content of the messages, not even WhatsApp has access. But as the company indicates, the messages you save on Google Drive are not under end-to-end protection and are encrypted by Google.

The messaging app is developing a new function that will allow you to protect the backup for Android with a password, activating the option from the settings -as you can see in the following image that WaBetaInfo- has shared. This option can be activated or deactivated:

The 'protect backup' function is still under development so we don't have details, although we know that only users with the password can access the saved copies. If you forget it you will not be able to access the chat history. We hope that it will be available soon although as the source has pointed out, there is no scheduled date for the official launch of this feature.
