What Sony confirms more PlayStation games are coming to PC

Sony has published their fiscal year 2022 consolidated earnings report(opens in new tab), containing a tiny bit of information on PC launches. Sony says it will continue "rolling out titles for PC," but didn't provide a timetable for the launch of any such PC releases.

Is this a major surprise? No, it isn't. But since the last PlayStation-made game launched on PC earlier this year (The Last of Us Part 1), Sony has been mum on the possibility of further PlayStation exclusives, both on PS4 and PS5, making the jump from consoles to PC.

games of all time are only $0.99. That said, the sale is set to end on May 1, which means you will need to act fast to tak advantage of these limited-time deals. As for the games themselves, they come the way of Valve itself, the owners of Steam. As you may know, Valve is also the maker of some of the greatest games and series ever made, and it regularly discounts these games to dirt cheap prices. To this end, right now, and until May 1, both Portal and Portal 2 are on sale for $0.99. Normally, both cost $9.99 each, so this represents a savings of $18.

The puzzle-platformer series got its start in 2007 with a game of the same name. When released, it earned critcal acclaim and was/is widely considered one of the best games of 2007. Four years later a sequel, Portal 2, followed and it earned even more acclaim. With a 95 on Metacritic, Portal 2 is one of the highest-rated games ever made. $2 to play just one of them would be an absolute steal. $2 to play both is one of the best deals you will find on the Internet.

The sign of Sony's healthy PC strategy emerged from the company's FY2022 financial report, specifically under the "Others" category in the Game and Network Services Segment Supplemental Information(opens in new tab) section.

The document defines "Others" as "revenue from peripherals including PlayStationVR and revenue from sales of first-party titles on platforms other than PlayStation consoles." And the numbers over the past two fiscal years are pretty remarkable.

In this job, there are clear and obvious trends that dominate the discussion, sometimes for years at a time. I’ve been running  for well over a decade now, and I’m lucky enough to have reported on many of the defining moments that have engaged enthusiasts: there was the battle for motion controls, spurred by the Nintendo Wii’s success which resulted in competitors like the  there was the raging debate over , with Sony painted as the obstacle preventing publishers from adopting the now quite common feature; and, more recently, there’s been subscriptions.

Heading into this generation there were very clear lines drawn in the sand: PlayStation’s market position was under threat if it refused to offer its first-party games day one with  Sony, to its credit, was consistent from the start, arguing that it wouldn’t adopt this strategy and didn’t see it as particularly sustainable – at least in the current climate. It argued that by transforming its business model in such a seismic way, there could be an impact on the quality of its PS Studios games, which have generally been regarded among some of the best available on any platform.
