Uniqueness of the Earth as a habitat of living beings
The objective of this unit is to find facts about the uniqueness of the planet Earth in the solar system.
The Earth is a 510 million square km spherical object. Despite being a globe, the equatorial diameter of the Earth is 42 km longer than the polar diameter. It is not regarded as a mathematical sphere as a result.

You learned in unit 1 that Earth, our home planet, is located third from the sun. Examine the following details as well.
167°C is the average surface temperature of Mercury, a planet that is relatively near the sun.
▪ Venus, the planet located two solar masses away, has an average surface temperature of 464°C.
▪ The Earth's surface has an average temperature of 15°C.
▪ Neptune, the planet that is farthest from the sun, has an average surface temperature of 225°C.
Because Earth is positioned in the middle of the solar system, its temperature is neither as high as that of Mercury, Venus, or Neptune, nor as low as that of those planets.
The Earth's ability to support life is attributed to several elements, including the existence of an atmosphere that contains favourable gases and water vapour that is conducive to life.
The presence of water with the occurrence of a moderate temperature.

Based on current research, it appears that life exists solely on Earth.
Because of its unique features that set it apart from other planets in the solar system, Earth has a special place in the universe.
