What is the significance of Vijaya Dasami?

Vijaya Dasami is an auspicious day as the country is celebrating Vijaya Dasami. On the last day of the Durga puja, the tenth day is the Dussera or Vijay Dasami. The word Vijay means victory. So this is the day of the victory celebration. It is followed by Navaratri, the nine days puja or worship of Devi Durga. It has concluded amid present covid 19. Due to the deadly virus, Durga puja was maintained and observed in a lesser manner than the government instructions for the people's greater safety.

The main significance of Vijay Dasami is the victory of truth over evil. So in many parts of India, Ravan's effigy is burnt as a mark of destroying evil forces. As the epic Ramayana says, King Rama defeated Ravana on this particular day after a long battle. Rama was accompanied by brother Lakshman, Rambhakt Hanuman, and other soldiers to release seetamata from Ravan's custody. We know that Ravan was a great pandit with high vanity and egoism. On the other hand, Purushottam Rama was an ideal godly king whose rule Ramrajya was of a high standard with peace and abundance.

Ravan was warned by his brother Bibhisana and Ravan's wife Mandodari not to fight with Rama and surrender.by seeing the divinity of Ram. But Ravan was arrogant with his pride. He never listened to them. Due to his misdeeds, on the battlefield, he lost his sons and other warriors. Ravan's brother Bibhisana left him and joined with Ram after becoming a disciple of Lord Rama.

Ram had to struggle a lot before conquering Ravan.Ram was advised by his Guru to perform Durga puja to acquire power and strength. So before defeating Ravan, Ram. Performed Durga puja .Ram started Durga Devi Aradhana with rituals, and ultimately he was able to kill Ravan by the divine blessings of Durgama. Since then, it is said to be more popularised to perform Durga puja from Hindu calendar Aswin Sukla paksha praipada, the first lunar day to Dasami, the tenth day of the lunar calendar for Aswin which falls in October every year. As mentioned earlier, it could not be performed in a big way this year. Compared to the early years due to the present covid 19 pandemic. Instead of such an unwanted situation, people of the country prayed to Drgadevi to finish all calamities so that the days come to normalcy. As all schools and colleges are closed for the last few months, losses in business, economic stagnation, loss of life, etc., the country has seen a significant negative effect.

So it is the best time to unite together, praying for a disease-free. World.

Significantly Vijay Dasami depicts victory over evil .we can take a pledge to leave all bad karmas, forwarding for a positive atmosphere, goodwill among all to have a prosperous and happy life. In the last few months, we have seen various changes and learned many new. From lockdown to slowly unlocking situations. Temples were closed for a long time, but these festivals remind us to be firm in our determination and work and conquer the devil forces.

We hope to have normalcy soon with all prosperity and growth from all sides of life for each of us.
