What is the purpose of praying?

Praying helps to create connectivity with the divine. It can help a soul in pain get a ray of guidance through the Higher Self, which can assist in making a conscious decision and solve life problems. It helps in improving concentration – ability to identify the real problem, to nurture the inherent wisdom to resolve difficult situations. It provides mental relaxation where one can bring the mind to a neutral point to clearly understand the pros and cons of a situation in hand. People, who are an expert can visually imagine situations, feel they are confronting the higher powers and talking to them. It can prove to be a great tool to handle adverse life conditions. One can see the anxieties dissolve, as we pray. People who face unexpected life situations may become discouraged, stuck, depressed or anxious, and may suffer from health problems caused by it. The path of spirituality provides a relevant way to understand and endorse the pains, to be able to move on and avoid being stuck. It helps to clear the inner void of negativity created by difficulties in life. Developing the habit of praying Like other life habits, one needs to develop the habit of praying to the Higher energies, to be able to use the instinct at the time of difficulty. You can pray anywhere in a peaceful natural location. Take some time out and simply try to develop the connectivity with the Higher Self. In Hinduism, idols of Gods are made and mantras are used to connect with the idols believing them to be the God with whom we can talk and discuss our problems. Hindu texts state God can give us anything we want, in return for our prayers. The Karmic theory in Bhagvat Gita states our fate is governed by our karma, but if we can devote all our karma to Him, we become boundless, beyond karma. In Christianity, it is believed that God has commanded us to pray and He wants us to be obedient to His will. There are many texts in the Bible like “This, then, is how you should pray …” -Matthew 6:9. He wants us to pray in distress and happiness. “Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.” -Colossians 4:2 “Pray continually” -1 Thessalonians 5:17 In Hinduism, even Gods pray to develop connectivity to the cosmic energies to gain the support of these cosmic energies. Similarly, in the Bible, there are texts that state - Jesus prayed, prayed all night, behind the mountains. Shiva meditated as it helped to balance the cosmic energies. Shiva is Adiyogi, an ascetic and is related to darkness. It is believed that meditation helps to open the third eye. Some say it helps in developing the sixth sense or intuition. Ramayana states - Rama prayed to Lord Shiva before constructing the bridge on the ocean. On the whole, people who pray regularly feel a sense of peace and contentment within and can concentrate on everyday life activities with ease.
