WHAT IS THE Kia Carens Records 50k Bookings Milestone – In Under 25 Days Of Launch

Kia Carnies, launched in India on 15th February 2022, has seen outstanding demand. The company has stated that bookings have crossed the 50,000 mark today. Demand for diesel Carnies is almost the same as that of petrol Carnies. Around 60% of the bookings are from Tier I and II markets.\\

This huge demand has given rise to extended waiting periods that vary according to the model. Carnies waiting period, depending on the variant, extends from 13-14 weeks for the Luxury Plus trim to 48-49 weeks or over 11 months for Carnies Prestige. Kia Carnies Production Increase Byung-soo Son, Chief Sales Officer, Kia India said, “This responsibility for the Carnies has created  before excitement in the family mover segment, and it matches the excitement that our other SUVs have generated, and it is very encouraging.” \\

To meet demand, Kia has commenced a third shift at the company’s Anent PUR based manufacturing facility. The company also expects to see a more equitable flow in the supply of semiconductor parts, which would ensure smoother production. Kia Carnies SUV-styled MPV is presented in five trims of Premium, Prestige, Prestige Plus, Luxury, and Luxury Plus and 19 variants. It is a 7 seater vehicle, which is also offered as a 6 seater option with Luxury Plus. Prices of Kia Carnies range from PRs. 8.99 lakh and goes up to PRs. 16.99 lakh. Last month, Kia sold 5,300 units of the Carnies. It was the highest-selling car in the segment.\\

Kia Carnies – Firsts in Segment Features, Kia Carnies offers the benefits of a family mover along with the sportiness of an SUV. It is ideally suited for Indian families and Indian road conditions, and receives a host of segment-first features that lets it stand ahead of the competition. It comes in with the next-gen Kia Connect App, flexible seating options, a sliding-type seat under tray, and a retractable seat back table. It also gets a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with connected car technology, Bose 8 speaker sound system, 64 color ambient lighting along with an electric sunroof, ventilated seats in the front, and a digitized driver’s display. \\

Kia Carnies gets a segment-first offering of 6 airbags and ESP as standard. Its other safety features include vehicle stability management, hill assist, hill descent brake control, and disc brakes on all 4 wheels. Petrol and Diesel Engine Specs Kia Carnies are offered in a choice of three engines borrowed from the Altos. Its 1.5 liters naturally aspirated petrol unit offers 114 HP power and 144 Nm torque. The 1.4-liter turbo petrol engine makes 138 HP power and 242 Nm torque, while the 1.5 liter C R D I diesel unit is capable of 114 HP power and 250 Nm torque.\\

Each of these engines gets a manual gearbox as standard, while the turbo petrol also receives a 7-speed DCT automatic gearbox. The diesel engine gets a 6-speed torque converter automatic unit. Carnies diesel is in demand, primarily because it has a certain edge over select competitors. Martin Artisans and XL6 are only offered in petrol engines and CNG. It is also in terms of price that Kia Carnies is better positioned over rivals in the 3 row MPV segment. Electric car sales in India are yet to become the phenomenon that E2W’s are proving to be. As expected, sales volume is way lower than that of electric two-wheelers, dominated by scooters. But it’s a bit of a drag considering not many existing manufacturers are offering affordable electric cars.\\

The industry isn’t going to be rescued by new car manufacturers, and known names are yet to play their ace game. There is however the approach by Tata Motors that bucks the trend. It also single-handedly contributes to almost all sales. Tata Motors has over 96% market share in the electric car segment of India. In January, sales were reported at 1,360 units, ensuring a 3 digit Momma growth. Luxury Electric Cars Audi India registered 7 units in sales last month. They offer the Elton electric car in India. Jaguar Land Rover reported 6 units of I-Pace. On January 10 units were sold. Mercedes-Benz AG reported 4 units sold in Feb 22 and 2 units sold in Jan 22. They have the EQC on offer in India. Porsche sold 4 units of Thy can in February, and 2 units in January. Electra Genentech sold 2 units in January and none in February 2022. In all, electric car sales in February 2022 rose to 2,352 units, up from 593 units YoY. In January 2022, total electric car sales were reported at just below 1.5k units.\\

Indian electric vehicle market It’s no surprise that luxury car manufacturers have been at the fore when it comes to introducing electric cars to their product line-up here. With global demand for electric cars being much higher, it’s only a matter of time and product strategy for global names to introduce their electric line-up here. With most manufacturers here not disclosing a clear business plan where electric vehicles are concerned, one can only wait and watch. Currently, at its infancy, growth projections until the end of the decade look positive. With great changes expected within 5 years, the market share of electric cars is expected to be at just over 10 percent. \\

The 125cc segment of motorcycles is a very lucrative space for Indian consumers. The segment usually caters to buyers looking for a commuter option with adequate performance for everyday use as well as occasional touring. Although the number of offerings in this space has reduced in the recent past, they still command a sizable market share.\\

A total of 1,99,471 units of 125cc motorcycles were sold across the country in January this year. While this figure is 39,447 units more than the total sales volume recorded in December 2021, this figure is 26,253 units less in comparison to January last year. This has resulted in a Momma growth of 24.65 percent and a YoY decline of 11.63 percent. 125cc Motorcycles Sales Jan 2022 – Shine, Pulsar lead The segment was headed by Honda CB Shine which recorded the maximum sales volume of 1,05,159 units in January this year. During the same month last year, Honda was able to dispatch 1,16,222 units of Shine, which translated to YoY degrowth of 9.52 percent.\\

On the other hand, the Japanese automaker sold only 68,061 units of the commuter bike in December last year, which has resulted in an n Momma growth of 54.51 percent. The second place was occupied by Bajaj, which sells two models of the Pulsar brand in this space - Pulsar 125 and Pulsar NS125. Cumulatively, both bikes recorded a monthly volume of 44,181 units in January this year. 125cc Motorcycle Sales Jan 2022 vs Jan 2021 (YoY) In comparison, the Hakan based bike maker was able to sell 47,080 units of 125cc Pulsar in January last year whereas this figure stood at 27,900 units in December 2021. \\

Therefore, this led to a YoY drop of 6.16 percent and a YoY growth of 58.35 percent. Sales of Glamour, Super Splendor, decline Hero MotoCorp was able to sell 24,473 units of Glamour, last month as compared to 22,681 units sold during the same month last year. This resulted in YoY growth of 7.90 percent. In December last year, the largest two-wheeler manufacturer sold 31,595 units of Glamour, which resulted in a Momma decline of 22.54 percent. Glamour was followed by its sibling, Super Splendor, with a total registered volume of 13,503 units last month. During January last year, Hero sold 37,225 units of Super Splendor, which translates to a YoY drop of 63.73 percent. In December 2021, the sales volume for Super Splendor stood at 20,637 units, registering a Momma decline of 34.57 percent.\\

In comparison, the Hakan-based bike maker was able to sell 47,080 units of 125cc Pulsar in January last year whereas this figure stood at 27,900 units in December 2021. Therefore, this led to a YoY drop of 6.16 percent and a YoY growth of 58.35 percent. In comparison, the Hour-based bike maker dispatched a total of 10,843 units of Raider in December last year, leading to a Momma growth of almost 5 percent. \\

KTM retails two motorcycles in the 125cc category, namely - RC, 125, and Duke 125. The former recently received a generation upgrade. Cumulatively, the Austrian brand was able to retail only 778 units of the 125cc offerings last month instead of 988 units in December 2021 and 2,516 units in January 'last year' This translates to Momma and YoY drops of 21.26 percent and 69 percent respectively.\\
