What is the background of Thoothukudi sterlite oxygen production?

Sterlite

The DMK has been keeping quiet without officially saying anything on the matter. The central government has been saying that it should start producing oxygen at the Sterlite plant in Thoothukudi. Corona spread has peaked in Delhi, Noida, and Mumbai.

This has increased the need for oxygen to treat patients everywhere. But the central and state governments are struggling to provide the oxygen they need.

India can produce 7,000 metric tons of oxygen per day. But the current demand is only 5 thousand metric tons. But it is also said to be due to problems in delivering oxygen.

Vedanta, which operates the Sterlite plant, said its plant in Thoothukudi would be able to produce 1050 metric tonnes of oxygen per day and that it would produce as much oxygen as it could daily and supply it to the central and state governments free of charge. But the Tamil Nadu government and the central government did not take immediate action in this matter. Thus Vedanta sought the Supreme Court. At the time, the Tamil Nadu government had stated categorically that it would not allow the opening of the Sterlite plant for oxygen production.

But the federal prosecutor has told the Supreme Court that it can only allow oxygen production at the Sterlite plant because it is a matter of people's lives. This was followed by a referendum in Thoothukudi by pro-and anti-Sterlite groups. One side argued that Sterlite should be allowed to produce oxygen and the other side argued that it should not be allowed. But the life of Thoothukudi DMK MLA Geetha, who had been leading the struggle during the Sterlite affair, could not be seen in the area.

Similarly, we Tamils and AIADMK did not come to the polls. On the one hand, the Tamil Nadu government has also taken a stand on this issue. The AIADMK government's position is that Sterlite should not be opened even to produce oxygen. But there has been no official statement from the DMK on the matter.

In particular, DMK leader MK Stalin has not yet commented on the matter. Stalin is the scapegoat for the federal government's decision to open the Sterlite plant for oxygen production. Meanwhile, DMK women's team secretary Kanimozhi has commented on the matter. In addition, he has cut some of the questions raised by the Supreme Court without fully taking them into account.

The Supreme Court has asked why Sterlite should not be allowed to produce oxygen when people are dying. But Kanimozhi? Why shouldn't the Supreme Court allow the Sterlite plant to operate again? Tweeted as if that raised the question.

This was retweeted by DMK's official Twitter page. But DMK leader MK Stalin says the reason for the silence on the issue is related to oxygen production. Perhaps in the future, if there is a shortage of oxygen in Tamil Nadu, then the question arises as to why Sterlite was not allowed to produce oxygen at the time. If Stalin had objected, then it would have been criticized for keeping quiet. At the same time, Stalin is said to have thought that he would not oppose the federal government in this matter, with only a few days to go before the election.
