A system of physical athletics or dexterity-based activities is often recognized as sport, and only sports that fit this description are allowed to compete in major events like the Olympic Games. Activities lacking a physical component are not allowed to be classified as sports by other organizations, such the Council of Europe. Nonetheless, several competitive, non-physical sports are recognized as mental sports. Chess and bridge are recognized as legitimate sports by the International Olympic Committee (via ARISF), and five non-physical sports are recognized by SportAccord, the international sports federation association: xiangqi, draughts (checkers), chess, go, and bridge. and places a cap on how many mental games are permitted to be recognized as sports.(Source: )
