Research can be generally defined as a systematic method of finding solutions to problems. In common, research refers to a search for knowledge or facts. It is a systematic inquiry seeking facts through objective verifiable methods to discover the relationship among them and to presume broad principles or laws from them. In other words, it refers to the systematic method of enunciating the problems, formulating a hypothesis, collecting the facts or data, analyzing the facts, and reaching certain conclusions either in the form of solutions or certain generalizations for some theoretical formulation. A careful study to discover correct information or a way of collecting information to facilitate problem-solving. A systematic investigation into a subject to discover facts, to establish or revise a theory, or to develop a plan of action based on the facts discovered. Research is a careful critical inquiry or examination in seeking facts or principles; diligent investigation to ascertain something.
Man used different methods for acquiring knowledge. The basic methods adopted for acquiring knowledge are through natural or evolutionary changes, trial and error, and generalizing from experiences or facts. Today men acquire knowledge through a systematic search, which is generally known as research.
Research comprises defining and redefining problems, formulating a hypothesis or suggested solution; collecting, organizing, and evaluating data, making deductions and reaching a conclusion, and at last carefully testing the conclusion to determine whether they fit in formulating the hypothesis.
The systematic approach relating to generalization and the formulation of theory is called research. In this sense, research is a systematic method consisting of enunciating the problem, formulating a hypothesis, collecting the facts or data, analyzing the facts, and reaching a certain conclusion either in the form of the solution towards the concerned problem or certain generalizations for some theoretical formulation. It can broadly defined as a range from facts finding surveys to tightly controlled experiments.
