PUBG: Battlegrounds

The battle royale game PUBG: Battlegrounds, formerly known as PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, was created by PUBG Studios and released by Krafton. The game is based on earlier mods made by Brendan "PlayerUnknown" Greene for other games, and it was evolved into a standalone game under Greene's creative supervision. The game was inspired by the Japanese film Battle Royale (2000). It is the PUBG Universe series' first game.

There are two ways to play the game: first person or third person. Up to 100 players can parachute into an island during a game, where they must search for tools and weapons to murder other players without getting killed themselves. The game's map's accessible safe area gets smaller with time, forcing survivors into an increasingly confined region.

In March 2017, it was made available for Windows users through Steam's early access beta program. The complete version was made available in December 2017. In the same month, Microsoft Studios also launched the game on the Xbox One through its Xbox Game Preview program. It was formally published in September of 2018. Along with a PlayStation 4 port, PUBG Mobile—a free-to-play mobile game version—was published for Android and iOS in 2018. April 2020 saw the introduction of a version for the Stadia streaming platform; versions for the Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5 were to follow in November 2020. Since January 12, 2022, the game has been available to play for free on all platforms.

Gameplay

Players jump from an aircraft onto one of the eight distinct maps, each with a unique size and topography, to begin each match.[2] Every round, the plane's flight route changes throughout the globe, so players have to react fast to decide when it's safest to jump and land.[1] Apart from personalized apparel choices, which have no bearing on gameplay, players begin with no equipment at all. Players can seek for guns, vehicles, armor, and other items by exploring buildings, ghost towns, and other locations when they land. At the beginning of a match, these things are randomly dispersed over the map, with better equipment being found in high-risk zones.Players who have been killed can also have their equipment looted.[1] Gamers have the choice to play in the first or third person.

The playable area of the map shrinks every few minutes to a random location. Players perceive the boundary as a shimmering blue wall that contracts over time. Any player caught outside the safe area takes damage gradually and will eventually be eliminated if they do not enter it in time.As a result, the map becomes more constrained, which raises the likelihood of encounters.[1] At various points during the game, areas of the map are bombarded and marked in red, endangering players who stay in that area.[5] Players are given opportunity to move to safety in both situations by being alerted a few minutes in advance of these occurrences.[6] A aircraft will pass over different areas.

Depending on how well they performed, participants receive in-game cash at the end of each round. Crates containing cosmetic items for character or weapon modification may be purchased with the cash.[8] In March 2018, a recurring "event mode" was introduced to the game. These events modify the standard rules of the game, changing things like the distribution of armor and weaponry around the area or creating bigger teams or squads.[9]

Mobile versions

Tencent Games and PUBG Corporation also revealed that they intended to release two mobile versions of the game in China after signing a publication agreement for the Windows version of the game in that nation.[95][96] The first, called PUBG: Exhilarating Battlefield, was created by Tencent Games' in-house LightSpeed & Quantum Studio and is a condensed version of the original game.[97] The second, PUBG: Army Attack, was created by Tencent's Timi Studio and has additional arcade-style features, such as action taking place aboard warships.[98] On February 9, 2018, both versions—which are free to play—were made available for iOS and Android smartphones.[99][100] When the games were released, they garnered 75 million pre-registrations between them and came in #1 and second on the Chinese iOS download rankings.[100] After a trial run in Canada,

PUBG Mobile was only allowed to be available as a public test until the Chinese authorities approved the game's official release. However, the government permission block that lasted for the most of 2018 caused Tencent's scheduled release to be postponed. Tencent declared in May 2019 that it would no longer try to distribute PUBG Mobile in China and will instead re-release the game under the name Game for Peace, which complies with China's content regulations by removing gore and blood.[104] The game's Taiwanese version, known as PUBG Mobile TW, was published after the Chinese version.
