What Is Inside The Tesla Factory? A Virtual Tour

Billionaires are sporting their solar-powered cars everywhere. They make sure to get their hands on the latest high-end products from Tesla.

The company produces automobiles in state-of-the-art factories located all around the globe. These facilities are built with high-quality materials such as PTFE O-rings and back up ring, to ensure their efficiency and safety.

Recently, Tesla’s CEO Elon Musk, stated that they made over three million cars in total, with one million manufactured in their Shanghai factory. Ever wondered what the inside of a Tesla factory looks like? Let’s take you on a virtual tour!

What Is Tesla?

Tesla is a renowned automotive company, founded in 2003 by Martin Eberhard and Marc Tarpenning. It was named after the Serbian-American inventor Nikola Tesla.

The company is primarily known for its electric vehicles powered by solar panels. They are also dedicated to building clean energy storage products.

Today, Tesla is known for its luxury electric sedans, namely the Model S, Model 3, and Model Y. In 2012, the company built supercharger stations in the United States and Europe where Tesla owners can charge their batteries for free.

In 2016, Tesla expanded their empire by building Gigafactories to produce more batteries and vehicles. Five of Tesla’s six factories are Gigafactories in California, Nevada, New York, China, and Germany.

Tesla’s Factories

Over the years, Tesla has gotten really good at building some of the world’s high-caliber factories that produce products swiftly. They have six factories with plans to build more in the coming years.

In 2010, Tesla opened its first factory in Fremont, California, seven years after the company was established. It currently houses over 17,000 employees.

Their first Gigafactory was built in 2016, and it manufactures electric motors, batteries, and powertrains. The company claimed that this particular factory is also dedicated to promoting robotics and sustainability projects in schools.

In 2017, the Gigafactory in Buffalo, New York was opened. This is the site where Tesla builds their solar roof tiles, solar panels, and superchargers.

Even in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, the company was still able to complete its building in Shanghai, China. It's their first international Gigafactory, and it’s home to electric-powered cars, the Model 3 and Model Y.

This year, Giga Berlin was opened and is now producing Model Ys and batteries made exclusively in Germany. Giga Texas will be the most recent addition to the group. Located in Austin, the factory is tasked with producing Tesla’s Model Y, Cybertruck, and Semi vehicles. It is also meant to be Tesla’s new global headquarters.

Tesla Factories Are Monotonous

In spite of the luxurious machines, Tesla factories are strictly for manufacturing and don't have a leisure lounge where employees can spend some time off during breaks. It would be great to have an outdoor area filled with coffee tables and surrounded by a pond, to let out stress and fatigue.

If Elon Musk ever entertains the idea, here is a recommendation for a great pond filter foam!

Inside Tesla’s Factory in Fremont

Let’s take a peek inside the Tesla Fremont Factory in California!

The 5.3 million-square-foot facility seems like it came straight out of a futuristic movie, with robot carts and assembly robots piecing together parts of an automobile.

A robot cart that follows magnetic strips on the floor moves the assembled vehicle to the production line. Electric, self-charging robots deliver cars at each loading and unloading station.

This is what makes Tesla factories efficient at manufacturing their products.

The factory also houses a laser-cutting robot that slices aluminum sheets into their designated shapes. Afterward, engineers check them for any flaws.

Kuka assembly robots from Germany assemble the aluminum and steel frame of the vehicle into skeletons, or “uni-bodies,” as Tesla calls them.

The robots utilize high-definition 3D cameras for drilling, welding, and putting together parts of a Tesla automobile. In the stamping section, raw aluminum is transformed into hoods, bumpers, fenders, and panels.

Despite the presence of automatons, Tesla products ultimately need a human touch. The finishing touches of an electric vehicle include attaching seats, door handles, and instrument panels.

Robotic Factories

Robots are helpful in manufacturing products swiftly and systematically. It is beneficial for factories to have one or two automatons that will assist workers with their jobs.

The pharmaceutical industry has robots used for dispensing, light machine-tending, sorting, and packaging medicines and equipment such as medical injection molding.

In the food and beverage industries, machines such as those for packaging and palletizing are also used. This is great for food and wholesale juice bottle suppliers to meet the constant demand for products from the market.

Tesla factories are filled with cutting-edge machines and equipment that is not only innovative but also offer manufacturing efficiency like no other. It is truly a testament to the success of the company since its early stages.
