What Ashwin’s father Ravichandran feels on his son's 500th wicket

Ravichandran Ashwin, India's cricketer, has achieved his 500th Test wicket. The father of the cricketer, Ravichandran, reflects on his son's journey from playing tennis ball cricket to becoming a cricketer. Ashwin's father, Ravichandran, explains that he had to switch to spin bowling due to his mother's wheezing and knee issues. He also mentions that Ashwin's mother encouraged him to watch cricket on television, as it was considered important subjects.

Ashwin's father also mentions his son's love for music, which led him to take up karate. His father's perseverance in making Ashwin a cricketer was significant, as he faced every hurdle in his career. The biggest turning point in Ashwin's career was when he switched to bowling off-spin, thanks to his wife Chitra.

Ravichandran's father also thanks his first guru, Chandrasekhar Rao, for his advice and the influence of coaches like S Ramesh, TS Ramasamy, and Riyaz. Ashwin's second Ranji Trophy season saw him pick for the Duleep Trophy, a significant step in his career. Ashwin is often seen as an over-thinker but is actually intelligent and uses his brain to solve math problems.

Ravichandran's father believes that while 500 wickets are a significant achievement, it is not the only one that excites Ashwin. He thanks the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association for their support and hopes that Ashwin will be happy with 499 wickets as well.

Ashwin, a key player for India's home cricket dominance, has been in a good space in his life and is determined to continue his love for the game. Ashwin, who made his debut in November 2011, has collected 34 five-wicket hauls and eight match hauls of ten or more. Only Anil Kumble, with 619 wickets, is ahead of Ashwin among Indians on the wicket-takers' tally in Tests. Ashwin is also the third offspinner to reach the mark, alongside Muralidaran and Nathan Lyon. He is happy to watch the game, as seen in the recent Afghanistan-Sri Lanka match and live New Zealand versus South Africa matches.
