What are the different bone injuries, causes and prevention!

Sports injuries are those injuries which are common in feild of games and sports. During practice, sports training or competition, person can have injuries. There is no player who didn't get injured during his sports career. It is natural to get injuries. Although doctors and coaches have been making their best possible efforts to prevent injury but they can't do it completely. So one of the main injury is:- 

BONE INJURIES

There are following types of bones injuries: 

  1. Simple fracture: The fracture without any wound, where bone is broken at only one place .
  2. Compound fracture: The fracture in which skin and muscles both are damaged along with the fracture. Here the broken bone comes out of the skin by tearing it.
  3. Complicated fracture: In complicated fracture, a bone is broken by damaging the internal organ. The internal organ may be tissue, nerve or artery. Usually such type of fractures are complicated and dangerous. Such fractures are common in high jump and pole voult.
  4. Greenstick fracture: These fractures are commonly seen in children because their bones are very soft and delicate. Here the bone bends whenever there is any stress. 
  5. Comminuted fracture: In comminuted fraction a bone is broken into three or more pieces. This fracture can cause in cycle race or motorcycle race.
  6. Impacted fracture: In impacted fracture,the end of fractured bone enters into another bone.

Causes of Fracture -

Most of the fractures caused due to a high impact on the bone. It is caused by overuse of bone. The most common causes are:- 

  • In sports event where there is high impact.
  • Forceful and unnatural movements.
  • Sudden fall on hard surfaces.
  • Long distance walking or running.
  • Osteoporosis.

Prevention -

  • Players should perform adequate warm- up before participating in sports and games.
  • Player should not player during state of fatique.
  • Sports equipment should be of good quality.
  • Proper conditioning should be done.
  • Players should be very careful and alert during practice and competition.
  • Balance diet should be taken.
  • Training and competition areas should be clear of hazards.
  • Protective equipment accordingto the requirement of game/ sport should be used.
