Varanasi an Ancient city

Wonderful Varanasi an ancient city

Banarasi Paan(Betal) ... Banarasi Saree(a ladies Garment) .. Ghats of Banaras ... Temples of Banaras ... Roads of Banaras ... Monks of Banaras ... Sweet dialect of Banaras ...

Beloved city of Lord Shankar, situated on the banks of the Ganges ... According to Hindu mythology, this Kashi city was established by Lord Shankar(Shiva) himself 5000 years ago.  It is one of the oldest inhabited cities in the world.  This city is also mentioned in Hindu texts like Rigveda, Atharvaveda, Shatapath, Ramayana, Mahabharata etc.  The glory of this city is stated in 15,000 verses in the Kashi section of Skanda Purana.  This Kashi city, which is located on the trident of Lord Shiva, is also known as the free zone.

Here, death comes by luck.  In Hinduism and Jainism, it has been called the holiest of seven holy cities (Saptapuri).  The chief of the 12 Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva is established here in Varanasi.

On the Manikarnika Ghat in Banaras after Prajapati Daksha's neglect of Shiva, Mata Sati(wife of Lord Shiva) offered her body to Agni(fire) and it was here that the jewel of her ear also fell.  Fire never extinguishes on this ghat ...

Cremation(funeral) takes place here day and night without stopping.  Here, at Harishchandra Ghat, King Harishchandra had done the work of Dom(Head of funeral place) to perform the last rites of his son from his wife.

A strange combination of life and death can be seen here… where on one side there is a celebration of life with chanting and Aarti(ritual) at Dashashwamedh Ghat, at the same time life can be seen at other ghats even after the end.  .

Lord Buddha gave his first sermon here in Sarnath.  In 1507 Guru Nanak Dev  came to Varanasi on the night and his visit was an important contributor to the establishment of Sikhism.

Here in Banaras, Guru Nanak ji narrated Pandit Chaturdas Ramkali Mohalla 1 Deccini Onkar for the first time.  Goswami Tulsidas ji composed Ramcharitmanas sitting on the Tulsi Ghat in Banaras.  Even today, their stands are kept there.

Maharani Lakshmibai, who is known as the Queen of Jhansi, is the daughter of Banaras ... the heroic blood flowing in her veins belongs to Benares.

Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya (  Founder of Banaras Hindu University ), and former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri, also belongs to Banaras. Varanasi, Kashi and Banaras are same city.

City of knowledge, city of temples, city of lamps, city of ghats… Call this city by whatever name…

Its every thing is unique… It has a story in every street… There is a story in its air… There is also a story in the flowing waters of the Ganges…

One who comes to the streets of Banaras once, Banaras settles inside it… It is not difficult to separate it from itself… Impossible… !!!
