TOP PSALMS 1 :: REMOVE CURSE AND ADD BLESSING'S IN LIFE

Psalm 1 is called a wisdom psalm, because we learn that happiness is a  result from our choice to follow God's direction in our life. In this psalm, the writer shows us  two ways or two directions in life. One is the right or correct path or way that leads to happiness, and the other is the wrong way or incorrect path  that leads to misery, distress, anger, unhappiness, poverty etc.

Psalms 1 is a gateway to the blessings of the rest of the 149 Psalms. So, if you read, obey and follow Psalms 1, then you get all the blessings and secret treasures from Psalms 2 to Psalms 150.

This Psalms gives us  a warning and a promise. The warning tells us  the downward journey of a person who would listen to the word of this world rather than the word of GOD.

While the promise is only for the righteous people.

At first a person will start by hearing to the advise of the ungodly people, they begin to hear to the counsel of the unbelievers and ungodly and walk with them.

This is the start of their downfall which they will not understand at start.

Then the person follows the way of the sinners or ungodly people.

Once he reaches the end or the bottom, he or she starts enjoying the presence of the ungodly.

He loves to sit with them and spent time with them.

Let us read the first two words.

Psalms 1.

[1] Blessed is the man that walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor do they stand in the way of sinners, nor will they sit in the seat of the scornful.

[2] But his delight will always be  in the law of the LORD; and in his law will he meditate day and night.

What does this psalm talk about blessed people.

1)Three things a blessed should not do.

2)Three things a blessed should do.

3)Three rewards for the blessed for obeying point 1 and point 2.

Three things a blessed should not do.

Lets meditate on  what this verse says: blessed is the man who does  not walk in the counsel of the ungodly Choose the path of  righteous and that includes, refusing advice from those who hold worthless and ungodly  values and whose moral values  violate the laws of our  God.

The second line goes a step ahead, nor stands in the way of sinners It is one thing to listen to wicked people. It is another to knowingly agree with that viewpoint. Instead, the happy and godly person refuses to follow the worldly people. You don't see him hanging out with those who pursue sin as their personal lifestyle.

Finally, the godly people refuses to sit and associate with those whose speech mock and curse our heavenly father our  God, nor does he sit in the seat of the scornful. If you want to be miserable in your life, make your best friends, those who are scornful, sinners, and disrespectful.

The three important things, walk, stand and sit shows the slippery slope of ungodly people or evil. Evil is not passive. It is always descending. The longer you walk with them, the worse it becomes. A pattern of evil choices or life  causes a downward spiral in our character that always leads to destruction.

Blessings come only to those who refuses to be influenced by the ungodly people, those whose lives are governed by evil passions or work. The blessed person refuses to associate with sinners, those who choose to do wrong. Further, they refuse to join the ranks or association of those who mock God, mock the righteous people, or oppose whatever is virtuous or good.

Three things a blessed should do.

Psalm 1:2 declares that happiness comes by developing a strong appetite for heavenly father or God's Word. We learn to enjoy the Bible by following  the disciplined habit of meditation.

Meditation involves focus on the Scripture. This means seeking or wanting  to understand the Bible's meaning as well as its application. The Spirit of God makes the Word of God enjoyable and satisfying to the soul of man.

Blessed people are delighted in the Law of the Lord.

Blessed people meditate in the Law of the Lord in the Day.

Blessed people meditate in the Law of the Lord in the Night.

Three rewards for the blessed for obeying point 1 and point 2.

And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth his fruit in his season, his leaf also shall never wither, and whatever he does shall prosper.

Blessed people will be fruitful.

Blessed people's leaf will not be withered.

Blessed people will prosper.

Fruit bearing is the result of deep root's and finding an abundant supply of food or nourishment from underground streams or flow of water. God's Word is an never ending  eternal supply of empowering grace for all of life. Even during difficult times, seemingly barren or tough times, the Word will sustain life.

A fruitful life is always a blessed life. So, David states that God's way to happiness is being separated and different from the world, saturated with the Word, and fruitful and successful in doing our father's or  God's will.

Psalm 1: 4 to 6.

The ungodly are not so, but they are like the chaff which the wind drives far away. Therefore, the ungodly shall not never stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the association of the righteous. For the Lord knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the ungodly people  shall always perish.

Ungodliness will never prosper. In the end ungodly people's lives are shown as chaff. In other words, they are worthless, lifeless and useless. They will be driven away by the power of God's judgment. They will not dwell or dwell with the people of God in the congregation of the righteous.

At the end of the passage, we can see two directions, first the way of the righteous and the way of the ungodly, two decisions we need to make, to meditate on God's Word or to listen to ungodly counsel, and two destiny, the righteous will enjoy God's presence, Love, guidance, care forever, but the ungodly will perish.
