The road department has decided how fast any vehicle will run on any road

According to the guidelines, motor vehicles must be driven on roads or highways in accordance with this speed limit. It has been said that the maximum speed limit of motor vehicles on roads or highways adjacent to various educational institutions, religious institutions, hospitals, residential areas and haat-bazar etc. will be determined by local government institutions or road builders or appropriate institutions. But in no case shall it exceed 40 km/h in case of national highways and 30 km/h in case of regional highways.

However, the speed limit will be relaxed in case of vehicles engaged in emergency services, such as ambulance, fire service etc.

This mandatory maximum speed limit is said to apply only under normal conditions. However, the controllable safe speed limit will be applicable in adverse conditions such as inclement weather, hot sun, heavy rain, dense fog etc. If visibility is severely reduced or not visible at all, stop driving.

According to the class or type of motor vehicle, the speed limit sign with the name and picture of the motor vehicle should be displayed on the same post for different speed limits. Speed limits displayed on signs in front of hilly areas, curvy roads, bends, bridges, railway or level crossings, road junctions, markets, religious institutions, educational institutions and hospitals will be applicable.

Specific instructions are given in the guidelines. It is said there, taking into account road bends, junctions, geometric structures, surrounding environment, risk of accidents and other factors, the relevant road construction company will display or install standard traffic sign posts and speed limits according to the traffic sign manual for a certain distance according to the class or type of motor vehicle.

The special directive also states that cargo vehicles and other low-speed vehicles shall always travel on the left side of the road. You can only use the right lane while overtaking, never overtake with the left lane.

If overtaking is not prohibited, overtaking can be done by observing the road traffic signs, road markings, and if there is sufficient and necessary space in front, behind, and under safe conditions. While overtaking, it is necessary to check whether there is a safe distance for overtaking by looking at the position and speed of the vehicle coming in the opposite lane in front and the vehicle behind.

It is also stated in the directive that legal action will be taken against those concerned in accordance with the relevant section of the Road Transport Act, 2018 if they do not follow the instructions or violate the speed limit.
