The Lockdown: What are the effects of lockdown on human life?

When Covid-19 was at its peak, the lockdown was felt necessary to check this pandemic as there is no proper medication available for corona patients.

Almost 200 countries have currently been affected by a coronavirus. Therefore, it was the need of the hour to keep social distancing to combat this disastrous disease. The lockdown has proved helpful for many countries because it prevents them from massive destruction due to Covid-19, as it happened in Italy, the United States, and Spain.

Due to lockdown, industries and transport that pollute the environment were closed across the world. Pollution has reduced to some extent. Coronavirus is harming humans, but healing nature.

                                   Covid-19

But on the other hand, lockdown badly affected the world economy. In the other words, lockdown is just like a nightmare. We can't afford to stay at home all day. It's neither good for us nor our country.

Unfortunately, various psychosocial problems are associated with it. A few of them are listed below:

1- Remote Working

There is a little bit of luxury while working from home. Although working from home seems easy, but it is one of the greatest challenges. Remote working is not an easy task.

The most common hurdles face in remote working are:

  • To manage staff remotely is completely a contrasting skill. One should have to build a network to communicate with the employees and trace their work logs. We must develop an environment that leads to productivity.

                                                   Remote working

  • Many people can't maintain a work-life balance while working from home as no guard is looking upon them. They become lethargic causing the time to fly by.
  • Besides this, Cybersecurity is the major issue in remote working. There are many security threats while working remotely. This is the reason why many businessmen invest millions in IT security. Cybersecurity threats are common these days, especially during the lockdown.

2- Unemployment

The nationwide lockdown simply imposed great impacts in weakening the country's population. The daily-wage earners have to go out for work to keep their families alive. They are in great trouble. Due to lockdown, we can say that they became unemployed. Such situations may cause hunger or famine.

                                         Unemployment

The economic loss has been maximized by the nationwide lockdown. Many industries are getting at a loss, many people become unemployed and there is a long list of loan defaulters due to lockdown. Many people are not getting a complete salary. And the inflation rate is rising gradually. Masses are living from hand to mouth.

The unemployment rate is rising due to this pandemic. Thus, mass unemployment, homelessness, hunger, and loan defaults are the major economic issues due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Millions of people are slipping into poverty.

3- Educational problems

All the educational institutions were closed due to this pandemic. Student's learning is badly interrupted. Later, some institutes introduced the online learning procedure. It is a better option to some extent.

                                                        Online learning system

But irresponsible students are wasting their time on social media, scrolling their androids, and playing games. They are wasting their time in useless activities and are not paying proper attention to online classes. It induced laziness in them.

However, there is a list of problems facing online learning. In less developed countries, internet facilities are not available in several areas and most of the people can't afford androids or such gadgets.

There are a lot of talented students who are not able to appear in the online learning system. We have heard that students are the future of the state. This may prove to be a great loss for the youth and nation.

4- Mental health problems

Covid-19 is a physical illness but it has affected mental health hard. Lockdown gives rise to many psychological problems. Masses  are suffering from mental instability.

Living without social interaction is not that easy. As we are not going out, missing our friends and colleagues, and gossip, these things cause a sense of loneliness. Loneliness makes us aggressive.

Many countries are facing a high degree of loss because of lockdown. Many people face a financial crisis during this pandemic. This all leads to anxiety and trauma.

                                  Mental stress

On the other hand, the fear of this pandemic is at its place. Up till now, the only way to protect ourselves from this pandemic is to strictly follow precautionary measures. People under quarantined suffer from insomnia, stress, emotional exhaustion, low mood, and irritability.

It's not quite possible to strictly follow the precautionary measures in slum areas. Their lives are at the risk. They are afraid of losing their beloveds. As they are not financially stable so how could they afford to stay at home. Thus, the lockdown is more toxic than Covid-19 for them.

How can we deal with these problems?

During this pandemic, these are the major issues all over the world. Everyone must play their role to counter this disastrous disease. No doubt, it is a tough situation for every state. The government should make strategies to control these problems.

We should help others to the max. You must help people with acute issues if you can.

Firstly, we should be mentally strong enough not to be stressed or depressed. Government and NGO's should do the following things:

  • Spread awareness about these psychological impacts among the people.
  • Mentally prepare them to combat this situation.
  • Help people in getting their basic needs.

Second-wave of the coronavirus seems to be more dangerous. Our society is suffering a lot due to Covid-19. Health care workers are playing major roles during this pandemic.

                                            Health care workers

Health professionals are threatening their lives for the sake of humanity. They are curing the people in every aspect. Health professionals are real heroes of our society.
