Rowan Atkinson Says Playing Mr. Bean is "Stressful and Exhausting"

Born on January 6, 1955, Rowan Atkinson, also known as Mr. Bean, came from a farming family. He did really well in school and got into Oxford University, where he studied Electrical Engineering. But he also discovered his love for acting while he was at Oxford. He began acting in shows for a group called the Oxford Comedy Drama Club, and later he performed in theaters and on BBC Radio 3 comedy shows. Despite the comedic aspect, there's a part of us that feels a bit sorry for Mr. Bean at times. He always ends up in these unfortunate situations that would leave anyone feeling flustered and unsure of what to do – and this is even more pronounced considering his quirky nature. He's pretty naive, which keeps getting him into new kinds of trouble. The show covers all sorts of scenarios, from trips to the beach to holidays, even special events like Christmas and New Year's. On the other hand, Mr. Bean's self-centered behavior, like taking candy from a kid, makes you kind of anticipate the moment when things go wrong for him. But every now and then, the consequences for his actions seem a bit too harsh, especially when you see Mr. Bean looking sad and lonely, or when he loses something important to him.

While Rowan Atkinson was studying electrical engineering at Oxford University, he got the idea for a character. At first, this character was called Robert Box. But then he changed it to Mr. White. Still not happy, he tried Mr. Cauliflower. But that didn't work either. Finally, he came up with the name Mr. Bean, and that's when things started to click. Mr. Bean's show became a big hit in the UK, but it wasn't just the British who enjoyed it. When it first aired in 1990, people in over 190 countries liked it too. For 25 years now, Mr. Bean has been watched all over the world. Both the live-action and animated versions are still being shown in more than 70 places. When he was a kid, Atkinson had trouble speaking clearly. He got better with therapy as he grew up. Atkinson's challenge was mainly with the letter "B," which is why Mr. Bean says his name in a funnily. Nowadays, Mr. Bean is super popular on social media. He has 1.3 billion views on YouTube and 65 million fans on Facebook.
