the Christian today

Lot’s Wife It seems altogether likely that, if Lot had taken off for the mountains and not stopped to question it after God had told him to — if he hadn't hung around complaining and whining, and if he had not kept alive part of the evil world of the plains of Sodom and Gomorrah which God had planned to destroy — Lot's wife may very well never have looked back. She may have had a resurgence of sympathy and nostalgia for the old life by listening to Lot arguing with God and trying to convince him that there could not be anything so wrong with just a little of it. I truly believe that the destruction that we see in the life of the Church and the Christian today is due to the fact that Christian leaders, when they were in a position to do so, did not draw the lines clearly. They could not bring themselves around to obeying God without gainsaying and getting themselves and their people out of this modern Sodom with great haste. As with Lot and Sodom, so with the Church of the Western World, when you go somewhere for the wrong reasons and the wrong values, no matter what lies you tell yourself and others, it is very hard to admit it and make up your mind to get out. There are perhaps few times in such a life when God is merciful in affording us the opportunity to see it clearly and, with His help, to make a clean break. When we get those opportunities, we had best take them. As with Lot, they may not come around again. And the same certainly goes for Christian parents. If you keep a little of it alive in your life, look for a whole lot of it in your children.
