TANAJI MALUSARE THE UNSUNG WARRIOR

There are many warrior who has been forgotten by the history as these stories are lost in the old pages of history.We all know that there was the Monarchy rule in India for most of the time and India has some famous rulers whose name is taken by pride in the history one them was Maharaja Chhatrapati Shivaji (Shivaji Bhosle I). Shivaji was the ruler from the marathas and became famous as he lead the mission of independent India and became hero of the hindus.Shivaji formed alliances with Mughals.

Now Tanaji Malusare was a military leader of Maratha army which was lead by Shivaji. And he faught many battles alongside with Shivaji throughout many years but the most famous and remembered battle is the BATTLE OF SINHAGAD in 1670 on which event movie is based.{spoiler ahead may be from the movie} 

Tanaji was busy in preparing for the his son's wedding but when he was summoned by Shivaji then he kepth all everything on hold went to attend the meeting where learned that they are marathas are going to recapture the fort of Kondhana(later named as Singhagad fort) from the Mughals.So Thanaji took the duty and took 300 Maratha soilders and went to the Kondhana Fort which was guarded by Udaybhan Rathod a rajput officer apointed by the Mughal General Jai Singh I.

Tanaji tried 2 times to climbed the fort which was on the peak of the mountain but failed. Tanaji used to have a pet named Yashwant which was a Bengal Monitor Lizard (ghorpad in maratha). Tanaji planned to attack the fort at night as a surgical strike and tired the ropes on the neck of Yashwant and thrown them on the walls of the fort and then climbed the fort. 

After sudden attack the big army of Mughal cannot defend themselves then there was a great fight between Udaybhan and Tanaji. It is said that when the sheild of the Tanaji was broken he tied his turban on his hand continued to fight.

That night Maratha captured the fort and when this news sent to the Shivaji.News was that during the fight Tanaji was injured very badly and he died in the battle.

Shivaji said with pride and grief "Gad ala, pan singha gela" meaning we won the fort but lost the lion.Tanaji was of 70 years old at the time of the fight.

Shivaji later renamed the fort in the bravery of Tanaji as SINGHGAD FORT means fort of the lions.
