Story of Chess (Shatranj)

The battlefield strategies were the great matters for the ancient times to win the battles with less time and human loss. So this matter emerged in the minds even of common man in streets.

The chess was introduced around some 1500 years ago in India by a slave of a king. He presented his new invention before the king. King appreciated him and awarded the gold and diamonds which he refused to accept. He demanded the award with his own condition. His conditions were such that the king must gave him the grains of rice daily such that in first day the king must put one grain of rice on first square of chess board. In upcoming days king had to put double of the previous square and so on with exact counting. For example 1 4 8 16 32 64 128 256 are the grains of rice on first row of the board. The are 8 rows on chess board and 64 sqaures. King willingly accepted his terms.

Next day slave came and took away one grain. Second day he took two grains and so he completed first row in 8 days. When one month passed the king realizes that he is in some trouble since he had to count approximately 215 million grains exactly. He invited some mathematicians for counting but they were all helpless at end of 5th row. This problem was solved in modern days by founder of Microsoft Mr. Bill Gates. It is narrated that king ordered to hung the slave since he puzzled them in this annoying situation.

After that this game became populer in India. From India it was taken to Persia by some traders where it was liked and played by Persians. After this the game was taken by ottomans from Persia afterwords it was promoted in Europe fromwhere all around the globe. Modern chess has new rules to end the game within short time or specified time as compared to it's old fashioned play where only one game may have continued for months or years.

The rules of this game are so simple. But the main things are strategy, tactics, advantage by sacrifices to checkmate the opponents king. The real objective of the game is to checkmate opponent's king. Each player has 16 pieces(8 pawns, 2 knights, 2 Bishops, 2 rooks, 1 king and 1 queen) and all pieces have same colour. One player has white and other has black.

Chess has the ability to make a person more analytical. For example every situation in this game is a puzzle to solve.
