Shillong Tour

Meghalaya is a hilly state in North-Eastern India. The name means the "Abode of Clouds" in Sanskrit. Shillong is the Capital City of Meghalaya. The city endowed with incredible natural beauty.

From my childhood I was always fascinated by the natural beauty of Shillong and Cherrapunji. The clean hills and bountiful rivers, lakes, virgin forests and waterfalls are some of my fondest memories.

My native place is Mahendraganj a small town in South West Garo Hills district of Meghalaya, but my reasons for visiting Shillong again and again for the cold of hills, song of the waterfalls, the pleasant air, quiet places and natural beauty.

Every year thousands of people go to Shillong in Summer vacation to protect themselves from the burning heat of the sun. The approximate distance between Mahendraganj and Shillong is about 383 Kms. and takes about  seven and half hours by a car. The date was 5th July/2019 on reaching Shillong (I, Rajib & Kishore) our first stop was a view point from where we could see Barapani or Umium lake, the green hills, beautiful oak trees and cool breeze are always an attraction for a tired soul. This place is best to visit during sunrise and sunset. Everyone will feel the nature here, this lake adds charms to the beauty of the region. We capture a few shots there and proceed for our hotel at 5 P.m.

Next day, our first destination was Wards lake situated at the foot of the Pinewood hill. There are hundreds of fish below it's iconic wooden bridge. This artificial water body is also known as Pollock's lake and is encircled by an extensive lush garden. We than proceed for Lady Hydari park one of the popular picnic spots in Shillong, a park with vivid varieties of flowers and orchid which increase scenetic beauty to the human eye. It's a nice place to click pictures with it's stunning beauty, facility for paddle boating, lovely manicured gardens and winding pathway around.

Next morning after an early breakfast we started our journey to Cherrapunji. On the way we stopped at the Shillong Peak the highest point of Shillong and enjoyed the entire view below it really seems to the Scotland of the East . This is not the end of the trip, we headed  straight towards Cherrapunji the highest rainfall area of the world.
