Rewrite history what

The government has no intention of rewriting history. But if you ask me whether the ICHR has taken up any project on history with all due respect, I would like to inform this House that yes, it has.

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Monday said the Indian Council of Historical Research has no plans to "rewrite" history but is filling "gaps" by including all prominent personalities and events, which are part of history books or not.

ICHR has not undertaken any project to rewrite Indian history. The government has no intention of rewriting history. But if you ask me whether the ICHR has taken up any project on history with all due respect, I would like to inform this House that yes, it has.

"We are expanding the history and filling in the gaps by including major historical events, personalities and events", he said.

Citing the example, the Union Minister said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had recently visited Mangarh Dham, where 1,500 tribals were massacred by the British in 1913 for a rebellion led by Govind Guru.

He said that the Modi government has also decided to celebrate 'Veer Bal Diwas' in the memory of Sahibzada Zorawar Singh and Sahibzada Fateh Singh (sons of Guru Gobind Sahib) who were martyred in the 17th century.

Mr Pradhan further asked whether the country needed to know about Telugu revolutionary Alluri Sitarama Raju and Baxi Jagabandhu Vidyadhar Mohapatra of Odisha, who fought against the British government.

"All these are not part of the current Indian history books".

He further said that India was under foreign rule for about 1,100-1,200 years and if "we analyze that period, be it South or North, East or West, there were many civilizations who had made efforts for the glory, honor and upliftment of the culture" Work done.

All these should come in the pages of history. ICHR is filling such a gap. We are not rewriting history. We are expanding history, drawing a straight line. We are doing so much work, ICHR is doing it.

India is a country of many cultures. I would like to give an example of Kashi-Tamil Sangam, which was organized in Varanasi about two months ago. Tamil is the oldest language of the world. This is our view. India is a country which is home to all languages, all cultures and all Respects religions. This is the belief of the central government. There is no need to create a debate on this.

The government has no intention of rewriting history. But if you ask me whether the ICHR has taken up any project on history with all due respect, I would like to inform this House that yes, it has.
