Peera the small sitting arrangements

I was on a morning walk on a roadside carpenter shop Suddenly noticed a small wooden tool which was attractive .I stopped and asked the shop owner about the item.He showed all the tables, chairs available on the shop.I appreciated his work and talked with him for few minutes.Mr.Narayan who is running this business in a small room .He receives orders from local people for making table chair ,bed and different furniture item which are all make on wood.Assam is a place of forest and lots of wood are available. I asked of a small tool price which he said to be of rupees 200 approximately $30 us dollar. I said only 1 piece of this item is available out 10 he made of his hand work in last one month'so time.He said lot of time is required to finish one work. Then I ordered him a small item called peera which is a small sitting arrangement especially it is used to sit while taking meals .This item is almost obsolete nowadays in city areas as people are  using mostly dining sets for their use.But still in some parts of the villages people are using peera.I have ordered one to him and he confirmed that he will make within a week time.I ordered due to my childhood reminiscences as we used this while taking our lunch and dinner. Presently we are no longer using it.Even in villages people replacing peera with modern table and chairs for their use during feast .peera is placed in earth while sitting and it was an amazing experience using it.

After a week I visited the carpenter friend and he replied shaking his head that he was busy in other work.He said within a couple of days he will complete the work.By talking few words on day to day life I returned home.Last time I used peera 10 years back in 2008 when I visited my father's birth place Ghilamara, a village area while serving their feast. One month passed and there was no sign of completion of the work by the carpenter friend and he said that he had forgotten. Just by seeing me only he remembered about the order.Actually he was busy with other orders where he have high amount of order.Obviously money is the criteria and people lost mouth of words.

However I am using the old peera I had which I made little polishing. The use of peera is really meaningful to me.My grandfather never get to use dining table during tables during his lifetime and only used peera because that was the tradition that time .
