Nepal: A Depleting Country?

Nepal is a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, multi-religious, multilingual, and a landlocked country located between two global superpowers, China and India. China is mainly separated by the Himalayas, whereas rivers separate India. Chinese President Xi Jinping referred to Nepal as a "land-linked" country rather than a "landlocked" country in the speech he delivered during his visit to Nepal.

Nepal is a developing country, has many sectors to develop properly. In Nepal, governance is not so good; Nepal is a politically unstable country. E.g., In 17 years, Nepal has had 17 prime-ministers(the head of government). The main source of income for the government is through tourism, but in the year 2020, when the government had just launched the 'Visit Nepal 2020' campaign to promote tourism in Nepal, the wave of a global pandemic; COVID-19, had already reached Nepal. So, the government had to cancel the campaign.

Many developmental works had been paused to maintain the health status of the Nepalese people. Nepalese people were involved in many movements in the year 2062/63 to overthrow the country's monarchs. King Gyanendra Bir Bikram Shah, who was the rightful heir of the throne, was not accepted as a ruler because of various reasons and one being, he was not at the royal palace when the 2001 Royal Massacre took place, and many suspected Gyanendra was the one who plotted the plan to kill his own big brother; Late Birendra Bir Bikram Shah(King of Nepal at that time). Many political parties forced the Nepali people to take part in the movements. King Gyanendra, a well-learned and experienced human being, left his throne on his own will becuase he didn't want conflict in the country. Although the people's success seemed like an achievement, it later proved to be a curse. Politicians didn't focus on the development works, rather focused on their personal gain.

It has almost been two decades since the monarchy was abolished from the country. However, the development is still needed in many sectors to improve the quality of life for the Nepali people. In the year 2020, the pandemic hit the country, and the Nepal Government has been crippled even more than before. Now the government doesn't have enough money to conduct various things in the country.

The virus has seriously impacted Nepal. The economy is at a declining rate. There are no facilities for the people because the government hasn't established more and more hospitals for the Nepalese and is unable to do so because the government had already used the funds for other developmental projects. Quality life in Nepal is declining because although we have qualified people, they don't get jobs and, as a result, cannot fulfill their needs and demands; hence, they get involved in bad activities. The crime rate is very high, and the people are below the poverty line. The government must focus and solve as many problems as they can. The government Sholay lie the locally available resources and develop a skilled workforce to develop the country as a whole, and citizens will have a better quality of life.
