What are the natural ways to eliminate dandruff?

Have you been trying to get rid of those awkward flakes for a while, which is somehow showing up on your shoulders?   1. Green tea:

Brew a cup of green tea and let it cool completely. After washing your hair, soak your scalp along the length of your hair in this tea and let it sit for half an hour before rinsing it off. You can also use a spray bottle for the easier appliance to the hair.

 

  1. Yogurt:

You've probably already known that yogurt works wonders on dandruff as a home remedy. The bacteria in yogurt can subdue dandruff-causing ones. Not only can it fight bacteria, but it also can nourish your hair and leave it shining. Apply the yogurt to your hair and let it sit for half an hour to an hour before washing it off. It can also be mixed with other ingredients based on hair concerns like honey for dry hair, lemon, apple cider vinegar, etc.

 

  1. Apple Cider vinegar:

Along with its anti-bacterial properties, apple cider vinegar (ACV) also can tame frizz and supply moisture and life to your hair. It's said to be one of the simplest and most convenient ingredients that control dandruff. Mix water and ACV in equal parts and soak washed hair in this mix. Gently massage it into your scalp and let it sit for 15 min, and then wash it off. Don't keep longer than 15 min; however, it can start stripping your hair of oils and become counter-productive. This remedy can be carried out twice every week. You can also use regular white vinegar instead of this apple cider vinegar, but it later has its added benefits.

 

  1. Lemon Juice:

With its acidic properties, lemon can break down the entities liable for dandruff. It also can keep in check any extreme production of oils in your scalp. Take a few teaspoons of lemon juice and apply it to your scalp, leaving it certain for about 5-10 minutes. Then mix some lemon juice in water and rinse the lemon off before washing the hair.

NOTE: Don't keep lemon within the hair for longer than 15 min and avoid doing this often as lemon may act like bleach and cause hair to turn white.

 

  1. Fenugreek Seeds:

Fenugreek seeds, also known as methi, within the Indian kitchen are often amazingly effective against dandruff. Let the seeds soak for some hours or overnight. A few tablespoons may suffice for single use. After soaking, the seeds are ground into a paste-like consistency; you can also use the blender, then mix in some curd or lemon before applying to the hair. Leave it for half-hour then wash it off.

 

  1. Neem Juice/oil:

Ayurveda recognizes neem as the universal healer or curer and reasonably. Neem oil is extremely effective with antiseptic, antiviral, antibacterial, and antifungal properties. Alongside tackling the bacteria and fungi that cause dandruff, this oil also can help to soothe the discomforts of dandruff-like itchiness. It is often used as other hair oils but should be diluted in base oil first. You can make neem juice by crushing the neem leaves and diluting the obtained paste in some amount of water, then straining it. Don’t use an excessive amount of water. Soak hair in this mix, and gently massage in the scalp and leave it certain 10-15 minutes. This is often much easier to rinse.

 

  1. Coconut Oil/Milk:

Coconut oil acts as a hydrator, especially for the hair. Coconut oil or milk can ease the consequences of dandruff and curb it wholly, having antibacterial properties. They are bound to leave your hair looking much healthier. It can be used as a hair mask before washing, or maybe overnight. Coconut milk can even be used because it is simpler to wash. Just like curd, coconut milk can act as a base for ingredients like honey.

 

  1. Antiseptic Liquid:

When all else fails, think about using an antiseptic liquid-like Dettol or Savlon. These can be a little harsh on the hair but can prove to be quite effective. Mix a tablespoon of antiseptic liquid in water. The proportion for this is 1:5 or 1:6. It is left to soak the scalp for half-hour pre-shampoo or 10 minutes post shampooing, then rinsed off with water.

 

TIP: Many also use mouthwash to regulate dandruff, which can also work for stubborn dandruff.

Other notable remedies for controlling dandruff would be aloe vera gel, tea tree oil, olive oil, and basil leaves.
