'Fleabag' author Phoebe Waller Bride Bridge was initially scheduled to play Mrs. Smith, but she was ultimately replaced due to creative disputes with executive producer and star Donald Glover.
The official summary describes the two strangers, John and Jane, as having given up their identities in order to be brought together as partners in espionage and marriage. "Each episode follows them on a new task and a new turning point in their relationship, matched by an enigmatic agency. They have to struggle to hold together when the fissures start to show. as a divorce is not an option in this marriage.
Similar feelings were expressed by Prime Video at the time of her exit, saying, "We can confirm that Phoebe Waller Bridge and Donald Glover have mutually and amicably parted ways on the series." The statement was shared with PEOPLE.
It was also announced by the streaming service that Waller Bridge's character would be replaced with Glover, "whom the series idea first originated, continues as EP and star, with co creator and executive producer Francesca Sloane (Atlanta, Fargo), who will serve as show runner, and executive producers Yariv Milchan and Michael Schaefer (New Regency)."
The project with Waller Bridge was initially revealed by Glover, 39, on his Inst gram Story in February 2021. He posted a video of himself dancing by himself before cutting to the actress and creator of Fleabag, who has won multiple awards.
He wrote, "Mr + Mrs Smith," at the time. "Donald Glover x Phoebe Waller Bridge."
