Kothari Brothers

The Kothari brothers hoisted the saffron flag at the disputed Ayodhya dome.

Around 30,000 PAC personnel were appointed around the disputed site in Ayodhya and the Ayodhya city of Uttar Pradesh. The brothers named Sharad 20 years and Ramkumar Kothari 23 years hoisted the saffron flag at the dome of the Babri Masjid. From 21 to 30 October 1990, Karsevaks united in Ayodhya in the number of millions. All were planning to go to the disputed place.

There was a lot of security around the disputed site. Even after the curfew was imposed in Ayodhya, at around 10 in the morning, the servants started to step forward towards Babri Masjid from all four directions. They were supervised by leaders like Vinay Katiyar, Ashok Singhal, Uma Bharti. Around 30 thousand personnel of UP PAC were deployed around the disputed site and in the city of Ayodhya.

On the same day, brothers named Sharad 20 years and Ramkumar Kothari 23 years hoisted the saffron flag on the dome of Babri Masjid. The sevakos and saints seized the security forces' car at 11 o'clock in which the police arrested the servants and prepared to leave them outside the city. These buses were parked near the Hanuman Garhi temple.

Meanwhile, a monk pushed the driver of the bus down. After this he himself sat on the steering of the bus. The bus accelerated towards the disputed site, breaking the barricading. When the route opened due to the breakdown of barricading, more than 5000 thousand servants reached the disputed site easily.

Mulayam Singh Yadav was the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh at that time. He clearly instructed that the mosque should not be harmed. The police was earlier explicitly instructed to use only tear gas shells to flee the public. However, after the barricading broke, the servants climbed into the dome of the disputed structure. There, the Kothari brothers climbed into the dome and hoisted the saffron flag.

After this, the police started firing on the servants. According to information received from the government data, on October 30, 1990, 5 servants lost their lives in the firing in Ayodhya. The CRPF jawans beat the two Kothari brothers and drove them away.

According to the book "Eyewitnesses of Ayodhya" on October 30, Sharad and Ramkumar were heading to Hanumangarhi on 2 November under the leadership of Vinay Katiyar after hoisting the flag on the dome of the disputed site. When the police opened fire, the two ran back and hid in a house in Lal Kothi street, but after a while they both came out and became the victim of police firing. Both brothers died on the spot.

On 4 November 1990, Sharad and Ramkumar Kothari were cremated at the ghats of Saryu. Thousands of people gathered at his funeral. The slogans for both brothers were immortal. Sharad and Ramkumar's family has been living in Kolkata for generations. Originally he was a resident of Bikaner district of Rajasthan. His sister was going to get married on December 12, about a month after the funeral of the two brothers.
