His name is Har Prasad Nanda (H.P. Nanda). Har Prasad Nanda was born in 1918 in Pakistan. Nanda, originally from Lahore, Pakistan, came to Delhi during the Indo-Pak partition. From that time he brought 5000 rupees and his two cars from Lahore. Despite this, he thought it appropriate to stay at the luxury hotel The Imperial. The reason for this was that he wanted to be able to meet his big businessmen and make business contacts there. He later founded Escorts Group, a tractor and agricultural equipment company.
In fact, Har Prasad Nanda and his brother Yudhi Nanda together formed the Escorts Group. It was established in Lahore in 1944 as an escorts agent. He started his family business from Nanda Bus Company which was based in Jammu. After coming to India, the theme of Nanda Escorts dream of establishing India as a big business group, he focused on the basic problems of India.He found that a large section of the country cultivates and there is a huge shortage of modern agricultural equipment. He saw great potential in this field.
In 1948, he laid the foundation of Escorts Agricultural Machines so that he could cover the market of tractors and farming equipment. Gradually, apart from farming tools, they also started becoming equipment for construction, metal handling and railways. Later he also started making automobile parts and partnered with Yamaha Motors for this.In 1959 he also established a tractor plant in Poland. He partnered with Ford and quickly expanded his business. After his wife's death in 1990, Nanda retired from business and gave the reins to the son Rajan. Nanda died on 13 April 1999 at the age of 82. But by then he had fulfilled the dream of joining Escorts Group as the top institute in the country.
Presently, the responsibility of Escorts is in the hands of Nikhil Nanda, grandson of HP Nanda. Today Escorts Group is the largest tractor producer in the country. Today Escorts Group is a company worth over 3500 crores. Escorts Group does business in more than 40 countries and employs over 8000 employees in the company.
