How to Quit your Job

How to quit your job amicably and build an enormous social network

No doubt, you will have a few sleepless nights as you prepare to transition out of full-time employment and towards the life of your dreams, your Ultimate Lifestyle. The excitement of leaving the 9 to 5 world behind and the opportunities of what your new lifestyle has in store for you will be overwhelming, and depending on how unsatisfied and resentful you are of your current situation, you could be tempted to write a witty and obnoxious resignation letter and have intentions of spending the remaining duration of your employees working as a less than desirable employee taking extended, unauthorized breaks, distracting your coworkers and other general unethical behavior, and while this is understandable, trust me, as tempting as it may be, it is always best to ensure you leave under amicable circumstances and with a great impression.

Once you begin to create and live your own Ultimate Lifestyle, it will be wise to keep all your options open and to have a few back-up plans. During the early months and years, you may need to dip your toe back into the rat race for long enough to top up your finances, or you may find yourself needing sponsorship or financial contributions for a new project; and your present company, colleagues and / or current boss could just happen to be part of those backup plans when times get tough, so leaving your j.o.b. on amicable and respectful terms will leave the door open in the future for you to approach them again.

The opportunity to re-contact old networks remain open for many years, so if you do find yourself in the position of needing to raise some funds quickly for a project, and getting a j.o.b. is the surest and easiest way to do this, you can contact your past associates with a “contracting” offer. You can offer to return for a few weeks/months on a part-time basis to assist with a special task, or on whatever other terms suit both parties. The benefit for them will be that they know you, have experience with you and know how reliable and efficient you are (right?). It saves them the trouble of having to hire a full-time staff member and/or go through the tedious process of dealing with recruitment agencies at their own expense. Even if there are no opportunities at your previous employment, they will be happier to refer you to their acquaintances with personal recommendations.

Being concerned about how to quit your job is just one avenue to growing your social network. You need to be always conscious of building bridges and developing strong social networks wherever you go. Being polite, friendly, helpful, reliable, conscientious, trustworthy, and genuine are the basic characteristics needed that will help you create an enormous social network. Talk to everyone! Be genuinely interested in them. Not just their career and how they fit into your plans, but their interests, passions, hopes, and dreams. Make friends! Every single person on earth has their own unique talents (albeit whether those talents are recognized and developed). Find out what their true talents are. Be kind and try to improve people’s lives wherever and however you can. Do not be stupid and make the mistake of dismissing a person because you fail to see how they can help you achieve your goals. The world works in mysterious ways, you never know who and when paths will open.
