How To Delete Your Gmail Account

While Google does not make it that easy to delete a Gmail account that you might accidentally delete, it is still a pretty

Easy process. You can take this to the point where you are not just deleting Gmail, but your entire Google Account on your

Computer, including Drive, Photos, Calendar, and other services. Whether the reason is privacy, or simply a matter of taste,

there are plenty of legitimate reasons for deleting your Googles Gmail account. If you have made up your mind that you would

like to permanently delete your Gmail account, and are not interested in keeping any of Google's other services alive on your

Device, it is simple to shut down your Google account.

If you would like to delete your Gmail account but would like to retain access to Google's other services, such as Maps and

Drive, then Google offers the option of only deleting your Gmail service. When you are done deleting this email, you will

Still be able to access Google's other services, such as your calendar, YouTube, and Google Play Store. If you remove your

Gmail account, you will have to provide Google with a different address belonging to you, so that you can continue using

Other services like Google Play, Docs, or Calendar. Remember, you may also have a Gmail address associated with other

services, like banking accounts and other websites, so be sure you track those accounts and update information as needed

Before you delete the information from the Gmail account.

Enter the other email address that you would like to use to log in to Google (you cannot use the address from your other Gmail

Account), and then type your password. Gmail will prompt you for an alternative email address that you will use to log into

Your Google Account in the future. At that point, Google will request you sign back in using the Account Password, so be

Ready to supply this data. Once you have confirmed that the Gmail address on the box is the one you want to be deleted,

continue entering the password and sign in.

You will need to type another email address to receive a link for the deletion of your Gmail and click it to finish the

Process. Once you have confirmed your selection, Gmail will send an email from it titled Gmail Removal Confirmation. Click on

The link to confirm the deletion of your account, and then click on Review to complete the deletion. This is done through the

Account Recovery Site (opens in a new tab), but if your deletion is more than a couple of days old, that link will not work

For you.

If you wish to remove an account from a variety of sites, the steps are generally the same as described above. You can also

Use tools like this one to configure your Gmail account to delete automatically if you do not use it for some time. We

Would not recommend that you delete your Google account without making sure that is exactly what you want, or without backing

Up your data. If it has been a while since you deleted the Gmail service, Google cautions you that you might not be able to

Recover all of your emails.

Deleting your Gmail address will remove your email and Gmail content, but keep in mind that this does not remove your Google

Account, your search history, or any other information associated with your Google account. Deleting your Google account will

Delete all messages saved on it, and you will no longer be able to send or receive emails using it. At this point, you have

an option to upload valuable data so that it is preserved when your Gmail account is deleted, and that may be a good idea if

Do you have any important conversations in Gmail? If you want to simply delete your whole Google account all at once, you can do

That, too--and, just as with Google, you can download all of your data ahead of time, too.

On the next screen, choose "Delete a Google Service" to get started: You can also opt to delete your Google Account here,

Too, but it is not required if you only want to delete Gmail. Under Download or delete data, choose to Delete Google service,

and, if asked, log back in (this is a secondary security check). With your Gmail/Google Account deleted or restored, you

Might want to refresh your browser's default account.

If you are using an Android smartphone, you will also lose access to any contacts linked to your Google account, along with

Any data which was stored using Androids backup services. Deleting your entire Google Account means the contents of your

Google Drive, Google Calendar, and Google Photos accounts will be lost, and you will no longer be able to access

Subscriptions purchased with this account on YouTube or Google Play (such as apps, movies, games, music, and TV shows).

Depending on which one of these two you deleted, you will lose all of your emails, photos, and other files on Google Drive,

Bookmarks, your favorite locations in Google Maps, and access to any associated services.

You will have to log into a desktop or laptop computer with an Internet connection, since you cannot use Google's own Gmail

Services app to delete accounts. For security reasons, Gmail does not let you create a new account using your deleted account

Details. You can always go into your Google Account by going to your profile picture in Gmail and choosing to Manage your Google

Account.

If you no longer have account credentials, or you are having trouble accessing it anyway, deletion may be a lot harder.

Google wants you to make sure that delete is what you want to do, since you cannot reverse a deletion.
