How to combat ‘COVID 19’ in the post Lockdown world

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by a newly discovered coronavirus that has not been previously identified in humans. Novel coronavirus infected its first victim in Wuhan, Hubei province, China at the end of 2019. This new virus has already infected millions, and more than 4,00,000 people have lost their lives thus far, and millions of others are going through the pangs of death due to this deadly virus.

The lockdown was enforced by all the countries to protect the people from this unseen life life-staking force. But how long can people stay in a state of confinement like prisoners? So it can be easily assumed that the lockdown will surely be called off very soon. It is also obvious why it is going to be called off.

People are locked up in their homes for more than three months now without any business, work, or any other means of livelihood. Thousands of people will die in starvation and many will lose their jobs if the situation persists. Protestations and rallies are being held in different parts of the world to force the governments to call off this lockdown. Many countries are pondering about calling off this lockdown as it has already brought their economy to a standstill.

The lockdown was enforced because everyone thought that it would definitely reduce the speed at which the virus is infecting the people, and actually it was the right thing to do. But unfortunately, it may take some 3-4 years for the vaccine to be discovered and handed over to the 7.8 billion people. So it has become impossible to wait that long through lockdown no matter how developed a country is now.

So the big question is "will we die like this?"

The answer is yes, and it's completely natural. Every era has passed through this evolutionary stage. Once dinosaurs used to reign the surface of this earth, but they failed to survive against the forces of nature, and only their massive skeletons are to be found now. But surprisingly, the cockroach from the Jurassic age has survived because it changed itself effectively enough to cope with nature. Mammoths were there as well and maybe they also have changed their forms, and we know them as elephants today. This process is called Evolution.

"So what is the point of discussing all these? What will we do with this knowledge?" question may arise.

The answer is, we too have to evolve ourselves. We have to fight our way through. We have to change ourselves as well, for our survival. By following some simple but effective rules we can also survive and defeat corona.

1. Hazardous habits

We have to forsake our bad habits at first. Habits like touching our faces, nibbling the cap of the pen, biting our nails, turning the paper over with the finger on the tongue, sneezing, and coughing directly without wearing a mask, smoking cigarettes, consuming alcohols, etc. are to be forsaken immediately for our own sake and the sake of our loved ones.

2. Social distancing

One of the main focuses of lockdown is to teach us how to maintain social distancing effectively. And now, when there will be no lockdown, we have to be very cautious and keep at least a three feet distance with others when we are out there doing our day to day chores. We must all refrain ourselves from shaking hands and hugging others at all.

3. Wearing Masks

According to experts, this very habit of wearing masks is alone 90% effective in our fight against coronavirus. No one and absolutely no one, whether sick or healthy, must never go outside without wearing a mask. We have to remember one thing very clearly that the virus enters our body through our eyes, nose, and mouth. So, if we can manage to cover our faces properly, we can keep ourselves 90% safe from this deadly virus. For more protection, we can also use PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) for an increased chance of survival.

4. No social get-together

After a long tiring lockdown, many of us would like to have fun by arranging parties, going to discos, celebrating birthdays, marriages, and religious festivals, and so on. But this is precisely what you have to say no to because this will undoubtedly make us easy prey to the virus. We have to be very patient as there will be a time for all of these fun and games and meetups, but believe me, now, this is not the time.

5. Cleanliness

We have to keep ourselves clean always no matter where we are, no matter what we are doing. We have to wash our hands regularly for 20 seconds, at least. The use of hand sanitizers and other disinfectants is a must for ensuring safety in the face of this global threat. Never forget to clean ourselves properly whenever we return home from outside. And don't be a threat to you and your family members.

6. Immunity

Immunity is perhaps the most important point of this article. There is no alternative to hard immunity. We have to boost up our immunity at any cost. But how?

We have to follow some guidelines both physically and mentally to boost up our immunity.

Physical guidelines

  • We have to sleep accordingly. Burning the midnight oil is very bad for both our body and our immune system. We have to sleep for at least 6-8 hours a day.
  • We have to do some physical exercises for 15-20 minutes a day. We have to keep our body muscles active and moving.
  • We have to consume sunlight by jogging and running directly under the open sun, as vitamin D is a must for our bodies.
  • We have to drink plenty of water every day. We have to learn to say no to fast foods and junk foods, which are detrimental to our health.
  • We have to add vegetables and foods with nutritious value to our daily menu. Seasonal fruits containing vitamin C are a must for our immune system. We must try to eat foods having lots of protein in them.
  • It will be beneficial if we all can drink boiled water with lemon right after getting up from the bed. We have to limit the use of sugar and salt in our food menu.
  • Some healthy spices like clove, cumin, ginger, garlic, turmeric, cinnamon, etc. are beneficial to boost up our immunity. We should practice mixing turmeric with hot milk as it would prove quite useful.
  • Green tea is full of antioxidants and very helpful for our immune system. Taking blackberry with honey is also an excellent practice to boost up our immunity.

Mental guidelines

  • Keeping the right hormonal balance is essential for getting a proper immune system. So we have to keep our mind calm and free of anxieties.
  • Spending more time with family members will help us remain focused and cheerful at the same time.
  • Last but not least, we all must say our regular prayers every day, as having close contact with God will surely give us inner peace and eternal bliss and help our immunity a lot.

Stay healthy, Keep calm, keep safe, and protect yourself and others from this unseen threat to humankind now in the form of a life taking virus. We have fought our way this far, and we will keep our fights on. Try to stay indoors as long as it becomes crucial to go outside and when you have no other choice but go. May God help us all.
