How The Dieting Mind Set

When it comes to diet, most people set themselves up for failure before they start the process. They are really scared to continue with their diet and before they start the process they fix their mistakes along the way. Sad to say but true, most potential dieters plan their first Rocky Road mistake while eating their last Rocky Road dish before the big event.

I don’t know why we tend to do this for ourselves but it’s something I see in dieters everywhere. The most popular idea is that one should indulge in the most popular foods and enjoy them the most before starting the diet process because these things have to be completely eliminated to get rid of those unwanted pounds. If you are honest with yourself, nothing can be further from the truth. Balance is just an idea that most of us hate to accept.

You need to change the way you think about food and your enjoyment of food so that any food you receive can be successful. Food is not the enemy. And that is something that people do not fully understand. Even ‘delicious’ food is not the enemy. The enemy is your inability to properly distribute the food you eat. The problem is that most of us eat the wrong foods more often than we do. This is where the problems lie.

Our bodies need the nutrients we lack by not eating five vegetables and three fruits a day that we should eat. Our bodies know that something is missing and we feel hungry or deprived of something. If we were to eat the right amount of fruit and vegetables every day, we would find that we are less likely to feel hungry and crave these unhealthy foods. This means that we can be more likely to enjoy them in moderation as they should be enjoyed.

Partial control is another problem we have. We live in a “high-selling” society. High size fried and empty calories per gallon of your favorite cola are provided with almost every fast food you can buy. You should learn to reject these things and avoid situations where you might feel tempted to participate in these great commands.

To be truly successful in cutting down on food you need to embrace the process as building a healthy lifestyle rather than sacrificing something. Don't think of your weight loss program as a bad thing but it is a powerful force in your life to make the changes better. If you have bad thoughts do not understand them in your diet. If you are feeling low, remind yourself that you are losing weight to carry too much weight. Remind yourself that you are squeezing out of your closet those large blankets designed to hide bumps. Remind yourself that you are losing weight and getting your body back.

Don’t get so caught up in the diet that you forget to enjoy some of the fun things life has to offer. Looking at your weight and counting your calories does not mean that you will never exceed your allotment. The goal however is to find balance. If you learn to distribute your food properly, indulge in moderation, and incorporate the fun activities of calorie burning into your daily routine you may be amazed at the results.

Diet and health are only reduced if you allow it to be so. If you can't control yourself when it comes to indulgence then avoid all forms of self-indulgence. However, if you can learn to balance these small amounts into your diet and burn those extra calories, then you should find yourself a happier and more successful 'healthy diet' than you have ever been in the past.
