How do you give wings to your dreams?

Dreams are important. Not the dreams you have while you sleep. I am

Dreams are not enough

 

As important as dreams are, they are not enough. Why? They don't take dreams

 

where you want to go A dream needs wings - to become tangible

 

a vision — a passion that takes you where you REALLY want to be.

 

Bethany Hamilton lives in Hawaii - her passion is surfing - her dream

 

is to become a professional surfer. He spends every available minute

 

in the water, even homeschooling, so that she has more time to devote

 

her vision. At the age of 8, she entered her first major competition

 

complete that year's divisional championship. Bethan's dream came true

 

her passion — a tangible vision.

 

When your vision is challenged

 

Bethany's vision was brutally attacked on Halloween morning in 2003,

 

when she was 13 years old. Bethany was lying on her board – her left arm

 

swinging in the cold water.

 

He remembers a flash of gray, pressure and a few quick strokes. She

 

he also remembers watching the jaws of a 15-foot tiger shark cover the summit

 

her plates and her left arm.

 

The shark was gone as quickly as it appeared. So are her arms.

 

What it takes to keep your vision alive

 

Quick-thinking friends and surgery saved Bethany's life. Everyone -

 

including Bethany – believed her surfing days were over. But within a

 

a week later her sight returned - she rejected fear and thoughts of defeat.

 

Less than 30 days after the attack, Bethany was back in the water. Her

 

family and friends were there to cheer her on.

 

Her first attempts were unsuccessful. She was trying to get up

 

one hand and keep balance. She was afraid her dream would die

 

water that day - the shark wins in the end. Bethany pushed

 

she suppressed her fear, gritted her teeth and kept trying. And then it happened.

 

Tears rolled down her face – the crowd cheered – she caught it first

 

he waved and went inside.

 

The dream takes wings

 

Just months after the brutal attack, Bethany stunned thousands

 

achieving the unimaginable - 5th place in 2004 National Scholastic

 

National Surfing Association Championships. She struck in September

 

again won the Open Women’s Division at the NSSA Hawaii Conference

 

season opener. Have a place in the National Surfing Finals

 

Championships Bethany secured a spot on the US National Surfing Team. She

 

he really defeated her fear!
