November 19 is celebrated as International Men's Day to raise awareness about men's health, improve gender relations and promote gender equality. In 1999, Jerome Taleksing started the project for International Men's Day. International Men's Day is one of the most special days of the year.
In addition to celebrating the contribution of women towards the mankind on International Women's Day on 8th March, International Men's Day is celebrated every year on 19the November, making the important role played by men. The festival was first announced by Thomas Oster in February 1992 to raise awareness about the issues that men face. The day aims to focus on the health of men and boys, improve gender relations and promote gender quality.
This day also highlights the presence of male role models. The day began in 1999 by Jerome Taleksinh in Trinidad and Tobago to mark his father's birthday. Also, the project was restarted to celebrate the 1989 victory by the football team of Trinidad and Tobago. Taleksinh advocated the project, stating, " Efforts are being made for gender equality in society and patient efforts to remove the negative image and stigma attached to men here."
