Free-agent defensive tackle Akiem Hicks has agreed to terms with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on a one-year deal, The Athletic confirmed. ESPN reports the deal can max out at $10 million.
This also could point to the Bucs moving on from veteran free-agent defender Ndamukong Suh.
Hicks, 32, battled injuries during his final season with the Bears in 2021. He only played in nine games, but still tallied 3½ sacks.
The 2012 Saints third-round pick made a name for himself once he joined the Bears in 2016. He landed in one Pro Bowl and picked up 31 of his 40½ career sacks with Chicago.
Hicks spent three-plus seasons in New Orleans before being traded to New England during the 2015 season.

Tampa Bay's top draft pick was a defensive lineman in Houston's Logan Hall, but Hicks is 6-4, 335, so he's closer to Vita Vea in body type and a big presence against the run as well as getting to opposing quarterbacks.
